Background

Kenjaku identifies Sukuna's original name as Fallen One and states that he was the elder twin of Daiten. Unlike Sukuna's cruel and bloodthirsty nature, Daiten was compassionate and righteous; Sukuna's technique was ineffective against his younger brother. Daiten eventually died in a cave, leaving Sukuna unmatched by the rest of his era. 132

A thousand years ago, Sukuna stood at the peak of jujutsu society. Even the combined efforts of the era's sorcerers could not defeat him, and he was ultimately revered as a god until he died of old age. His remains became twenty indestructible fingers, which were sealed to delay his return. 45

Kenjaku later prepared Itadori Yuji as the true Daiten vessel, whose body could suppress Sukuna's soul. When that plan was disrupted, Kenjaku instead cultivated the imperfect Daiten replica and used it to revive Sukuna with eighteen fingers. 57 79 132

Appearance

Sukuna's perfected body is built for simultaneous combat, technique use, and chanting. It bears black markings and projects an overwhelming presence and malice. 79 109

  • Four arms, allowing him to wield cursed tools while forming hand seals. 45 109
  • Two faces and vision without blind spots. 45 109
  • A large mouth on his abdomen, capable of continuously chanting techniques during battle. 45 109
  • Sharp nails and black tattoo-like markings across his body upon incarnation. 79

Personality

Sukuna values absolute freedom, violence, and personal gratification. He dismisses compassion as useless and views Yorozu's devotion as an annoyance rather than affection. 47 116

He is supremely arrogant and regards nearly everyone as beneath him. Even after being revived into an unfamiliar era, he treats the Disaster Curses as insects and attacks Jogo simply for speaking out of turn. 79

Despite his cruelty, Sukuna is a battle-seeker with acute danger perception and genuine appreciation for an opponent who can threaten him. Gojo Sawa forces him to experience desperation, exhilaration, and the possibility of defeat for the first time in centuries. 93 131 132

Abilities & Skills

Immense Cursed Energy and Reverse Cursed Technique

Sukuna possesses nearly infinite cursed energy and can rapidly restore catastrophic bodily damage with Reverse Cursed Technique. 45 82 130

  • Regenerates limbs and severe internal wounds in moments. 82 130
  • Continues fighting after being bisected by Hollow Purple. 93
  • His high cursed-energy output is central to Kenjaku's plan to spread evolution through the Heavenly Pillar. 133

Slashing Technique

Sukuna's innate technique produces destructive slashes capable of cutting targets and terrain apart.

  • Dismantle — indiscriminate slashes used for widespread destruction. 93
  • Cleave — a lethal slash that adjusts to the target's cursed-energy difference to deliver a critical strike. 93
  • World-Cutting Slash — an evolved, chantless slash that divides the world itself; it is born from Sukuna's attempt to survive Gojo Sawa's Hollow Purple. 130
  • Maximum Technique: Silence — an expanding cage-like sphere of World-Cutting Slashes that eliminates blind spots. 131

Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine

Sukuna manifests an open-barrier domain spanning several hundred meters around him, allowing its slashes to saturate the battlefield. 93

  • Its range exceeds the radius of Gojo Sawa's closed Dustless Domain. 93
  • Its attacks can strike a rival domain's exterior and force it to collapse. 93
  • Gojo Sawa's Simple Domain can neutralize its sure-hit effect temporarily, though it rapidly deteriorates under the continuous barrage. 93

Hellfire

Sukuna can create and fire an arrow of flame powerful enough to melt steel reinforcement and kill Jogo, a cursed spirit associated with fire. 130

Cursed Tool Mastery

His perfected form lets him fight with weapons while simultaneously maintaining chants and hand seals. 45 109

  • Kamutoke — a hollow, dumbbell-shaped cursed tool twisted into an “8.” 109
  • Hiten — a cursed tool resembling a ceremonial staff combined with a trident. 109
  • Kenjaku modifies both tools through Yorozu's Construction Technique and binding vow to counter Gojo Sawa's Infinity. 116

Soul and Finger Control

Sukuna's soul is distributed through his fingers and remains capable of resisting possession. 45 79

  • His fingers cannot be destroyed through ordinary means because they contain his soul. 79
  • After Ashiya Doman possesses Sukuna's body, Sukuna reclaims control over the fingers from within. 135 136
  • He learns the method to dispel Pure Land by observing Ashiya Doman's technique through the shared body. 136

  • Hiten — Sukuna's restored trident-staff cursed tool, likewise modified to counter Infinity. 109 116
  • Twenty Sukuna Fingers — indestructible cursed objects containing Sukuna's power and soul. 45 79

Relationships

  • Gojo Sawa — Sukuna's principal rival and the first opponent to drive him into genuine danger. Their decisive battle leads Sukuna to awaken the World-Cutting Slash, but Sawa's Maximum Technique: Purity defeats him. 93 130 131
  • Kenjaku / Ashiya Doman — ancient associate and eventual betrayer. Kenjaku revives Sukuna through Daiten's replica, modifies his tools without permission, and ultimately possesses his weakened body. 79 116 132
  • Daiten — Sukuna's younger twin. Daiten's body suppresses Sukuna's soul, making it essential to Kenjaku's possession scheme. 132
  • Uraume — loyal longtime follower who assists with Sukuna's revival, retrieves his final fingers, and returns his cursed tools. 70 108 109
  • Yorozu — an obsessive admirer from a thousand years ago. Sukuna rejects her feelings entirely and states that he killed her after she became too irritating. 46 47 116
  • Jogo — a Disaster Curse Sukuna openly demeans. Upon revival, Sukuna dismembers Jogo for interrupting him. 79

Story Role / Major Arcs

Return of the King of Curses

Sukuna's sealed fingers become a central threat after Yuta discovers one in Hokkaido. Kenjaku's faction gathers the fingers and cultivates Daiten as an alternate vessel when Itadori Yuji remains beyond their reach at Jujutsu High. 45 57

Kenjaku revives Sukuna by implanting eighteen fingers into Daiten. Sukuna immediately establishes his superiority over the Disaster Curses by effortlessly dismembering Jogo. 79

Shibuya Incident

First Battle with Gojo Sawa

Sukuna deploys Malevolent Shrine and heavily wounds Gojo Sawa. Sawa traps him inside Dustless Domain, stripping him of cursed energy long enough to land a Hollow Purple that bisects him. 93

Perfected Form and Final Battle
