Background

Suguru Geto enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High as part of an unusually gifted intake that also included Gojo Sawa, Gojo Satoru, and Ieiri Shoko. He arrived riding the Grade 1 cursed spirit Pelican, only for Satoru to mistake it for a hostile curse and attack. Geto retaliated, and their first clash revealed both his tactical use of cursed spirits and physical ability superior to Satoru’s at the time 7.

During the Star Plasma Vessel mission, Geto initially defended the necessity of Riko Amanai’s assimilation with Tengen as the rational choice for preserving the jujutsu world. Privately, however, he considered the arrangement cruel. When Toji Fushiguro ambushed the group, Geto escorted Riko to safety before confronting Toji himself and being mortally wounded 19 20 22. His near-death experience led to the awakening of Reverse Cursed Technique and the reversal of Cursed Spirit Manipulation 23.

The Star Plasma Vessel incident destabilized Geto’s former conviction that sorcerers should unconditionally protect non-sorcerers. He began questioning whether the people he risked his life for were worth saving, eventually allowing a curse to kill several violent civilians rather than protecting them 33. Conversations with Gojo Sawa shifted his focus from an abstract duty to protect “the weak” toward finding a purpose of his own 35 37.

After encountering the abused Hasaba sisters, Nanako and Mimiko, Geto chose to take them in and teach them sorcery. He later annihilated the Star Religious Group, whose members had celebrated the prospect of Riko’s death, and rescued Rikuhisa Negi and Manami from the organization’s abuse. He used the group’s resources to support his expanding household and established a café as a place to protect his family and community 37 39 41.

Personality

Geto is composed, observant, and highly principled, though the content of those principles changes sharply over time. As a student, he argued that sorcerers had a duty to protect non-sorcerers and was disturbed by needless violence against them 16 19. His experiences with the Star Religious Group, abusive villagers, and violent civilians gradually exposed the limits of that belief 25 33.

He can be ruthless toward people he considers malicious or irredeemable. His destruction of the Star Religious Group was deliberate rather than impulsive, driven by his disgust at their treatment of Riko and other vulnerable sorcerers 39. In contrast, he is gentle and protective with children under his care, healing Nanako and Mimiko, training them, and defining his purpose around protecting his chosen family 37 41.

Despite his calm image, Geto is competitive and playful around the Gojo brothers. He readily engages in brawls, domain contests, and petty rivalries with Satoru, while also accepting Sawa’s blunt criticism and guidance 7 11 30 31.

Abilities & Skills

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Geto’s innate technique allows him to subdue cursed spirits, convert them into compact orbs, store them, and deploy them under his control.

  • Can subdue weakened cursed spirits into black orbs, as shown with the Grade 1 Slit-Mouthed Woman 8.
  • Uses varied spirits for offense, defense, mobility, and battlefield control.
    • Pelican — Grade 1 flying mount 7.
    • Sand Worm — Swallows attacks and opponents; used to counter Satoru’s Blue and eliminate groups of enemies 7 39.
    • Rainbow Dragon — A durable, high-speed attack spirit; later summoned in massive numbers against Emperor Sutoku 7 22 125.
    • Flying Manta Ray and squids — Used for rescue, transport, and aerial maneuvering 16.
  • Can extract techniques from semi-Grade 1 or stronger cursed spirits after learning the deeper mechanics of his technique 55.
  • Consuming cursed-spirit orbs normally tastes like “a rag used to wipe up vomit”; coating the orb in honey makes it tolerable 9.

Cursed Technique Reversal: Bestow

Bestow reverses the usual process of Cursed Spirit Manipulation by using cursed energy to create cursed spirits.

  • Created dozens of Slit-Mouthed Woman-like spirits immediately after awakening the reversal 23.
  • Can produce enormous armies of cursed spirits for large-scale combat 36 125.
  • Can create copies modeled after powerful cursed spirits, including Jogo-like entities with comparable physical strength and flame techniques 64.
  • Created copies cannot use the original’s Maximum Technique or Domain Expansion 64.

Domain Expansion

Geto’s domains turn cursed spirits into extensions of his own body and allow him to overwhelm opponents through limitless numbers.

  • Womb Mandala fills its interior with black water and endlessly generated cursed spirits, including spirits he has never personally captured 30.
  • Spirits created inside Womb Mandala share a spiritual connection with Geto and can absorb attacks meant for him, including the mental overload of Unlimited Void 31.
  • All-Encompassing Phenomena manifests a black-water battlefield and throne from which Geto commands countless cursed spirits 92.
  • Domain use causes technique burnout after dismissal, temporarily preventing use of his innate technique 30.

Maximum: Uzumaki

Uzumaki compresses thousands of low-grade cursed spirits into an ultra-dense vortex of cursed energy.

  • Functions as a high-output explosive or piercing attack 91 92.
  • Defeated Hajime Kashimo after appearing directly before him within Geto’s domain 92.
  • Was powerful enough to destroy Mahoraga with a single decisive attack 92.
  • Pierced Emperor Sutoku’s body during their confrontation 125.

Reverse Cursed Technique

Geto can generate positive energy to heal himself and others.

  • Revived himself after suffering a heart wound from Toji Fushiguro 23.
  • Healed Nanako and Mimiko’s injuries after rescuing them from their village 37.
  • Restored Rikuhisa Negi’s injuries after freeing him from the Star Religious Group 39.
  • Healed Masamichi Yaga after Gakuganji nearly killed him 100.

Physical Combat

Geto supplements his technique with advanced close-quarters combat.

  • His physical technique was at least Kaiden level upon entering Jujutsu High 7.
  • Uses dust, terrain, feints, and summoned spirits to create openings against stronger opponents 7 64.
  • Can exchange repeated Black Flashes with Gojo Sawa, though Sawa remains superior in direct combat 36.
  • Held his own against Hajime Kashimo’s lightning-enhanced physical attacks while wielding Playful Cloud 91.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Playful Cloud — Special-grade cursed tool purchased from Gojo Sawa on an installment plan. Geto uses it as a close-range weapon against opponents such as Toji, Hajime Kashimo, and Emperor Sutoku 20 25 91 125.
  • Honey — Used to coat cursed-spirit orbs and neutralize their unbearable taste 9.

Relationships

  • Gojo Sawa — Closest friend, fellow member of the Strongest Trio, and a major influence on Geto’s search for personal meaning. They fought seriously over Geto’s crisis of faith but remained connected afterward 11 35 36 37.
  • Gojo Satoru — Classmate, rival, and friend. Their relationship began with a destructive fight and developed into constant competition, mutual respect, and domain battles 7 30 31.
  • Masamichi Yaga — Teacher and principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High. Geto later saves and heals Yaga when he is targeted by the higher-ups 7 100.
  • Ieiri Shoko — Fellow first-year and friend. She attempted to explain Reverse Cursed Technique to Geto and Satoru, though neither understood her method 9.
  • Nanako Hasaba and Mimiko Hasaba — Adopted daughters and disciples. Geto rescued them from village abuse, healed them, and committed to teaching them sorcery 37 38.
  • Rikuhisa Negi — Rescued from the Star Religious Group and taken into Geto’s care 39 48.
  • Manami — A young sorcerer rescued from the Star Religious Group who joins Geto’s household 39 41.
  • Haruko Shinohara — Café worker whom Geto protects; her relatives’ deaths in Jogo’s attack motivate him to seek revenge 38 41 58.
  • Yu Haibara — Cheerful junior who deeply admires Geto as a Special Grade sorcerer from a non-sorcerer family 33.
  • Toji Fushiguro — Former enemy turned uneasy acquaintance. Toji nearly killed Geto during the Star Plasma Vessel incident, but the two later interact with mutual respect while caring for their respective families 22 38.
