Background

Itachi joined the Anbu before Hyuga Makoto and was already recognized within the Uchiha clan as an Anbu operative. He was regarded as a genius, with Makoto later noting that he had attended academy classes through shadow clones while seeking Shisui's guidance. 1 19 21

At age eight, Itachi was the only survivor of a mission in which his employer and companions were killed by a powerful ninja. He claimed to have escaped after awakening the Sharingan; later investigations raised the possibility that the attacker had deliberately spared him. 56
