Background / History

Jiraiya is a disciple of Hiruzen Sarutobi and is regarded by Kakashi as his teacher's teacher. Despite his unserious public conduct, he is recognized as a powerful Konoha shinobi and one of the Three Sannin. 47 66 97

Following a war in the Land of Rain, Jiraiya remained there for three years to teach three children—Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan. He later states that those pupils died amid the chaos of war, a loss that continues to trouble him. 114 116
