Background

Kaido formerly sailed with BIG MOM under the New World overlord Nox. The Nox Pirates’ conflict with the World Government exposed Kaido to secrets unknown to most pirates, including the existence of Imu. Despite this knowledge, he continued pursuing a war against the Government. 776

At some point, Kaido was captured and used as a research subject by Vegapunk. His extraordinary vitality enabled research into Lineage Factors, the transfer of Zoan abilities to objects, and artificial Devil Fruits. Following the deaths of Jack, King, and Queen, the destruction of Wano’s armories, and Orochi’s death, Kaido concluded that his crew and pursuit of Pirate King influence had diverted him from his true desire for war.
