Ling Chu spotted a stall that specialized in selling human and magical beast materials.
Rows of transparent glass jars lined the shelves, containing eyeballs, tongues, hearts, and all manner of strangely shaped organs soaked in liquids of different colors.
One enormous gray-green eyeball was as large as a human head, its pupil slowly turning to follow passersby.
When Ling Chu glanced at it for a moment too long, the pale-skinned man behind the counter immediately leaned forward.
"An ogre eyeball. Want it? Only two thousand Sea Shells!"
Seeing that Ling Chu was uninterested, he produced another small glass bottle.
"What about a fresh Mermaid eyeball? Dug out just yesterday. It works great for brewing night-vision potions. I'll sell it cheap if you want it!"
A Mermaid eyeball...
Ling Chu frowned.
She finally understood why the Mermaid Race had always remained wary of human territory.
In the sea, they had to guard against magical beasts. Once they reached human lands, one careless mistake could mean even the eyeballs from their corpses would be dug out, priced clearly, and displayed on shelves.
Humans could sometimes be far more terrifying than monsters.
They continued onward.
A magical beast five or six meters long, resembling a crocodile, hung upside down from an iron frame. Its belly had been completely cut open. Two butchers stood beneath it, dividing up the materials. One sawed through bones while the other tossed the dissected internal organs into a Wooden Bucket.
Someone nearby was also waiting to collect blood. As soon as one bucket was filled, buyers immediately carried it away.
Huang Xiaowen wrinkled her nose and avoided the bloody water on the ground, but her gaze fell ahead.
There were especially many people gathered there.
Ling Chu followed her gaze and discovered a large open-air trading ground.
