Background

Squid Ball was active in the Public Chat Channel early in the survival game, where she earned a reputation as a “verbal warrior” capable of arguing with an entire channel. Her public arguments with Missing Teeth and Invincible and Handsome established her as a sharp-tongued defender of players being misled or exploited 16 17 66. She sent Ling Chu a friend request after observing her in public waters; although wary of Ling Chu’s Ghost Pirate abilities, Squid Ball trusted her instincts that Ling Chu did not kill indiscriminately. At the time, she considered her Astrologer profession less impressive than Ling Chu’s ability to summon Skeleton Henchmen 20.

Before joining the Ghost Ship, Squid Ball attempted to offer Divination services in the Public Channel for five Sea Shells per reading, but attracted little interest. This experience made her especially furious when the fraudulent fortune-teller Zhang Da Xian charged players one hundred Sea Shells for harmful false predictions 177.

Six days before her rescue, Squid Ball landed on a Level Four Island inhabited by a village of over two thousand people. The seemingly welcoming settlement had an inn, bakery, tailor shop, and blacksmith shop; she remained there for six days and became stranded away from her ship. Ling Chu rescued her by trading her a Space Spore from a Swallowing Pitcher Plant, which teleported her onto the Ghost Ship 124.

Her prediction that the next Calamity would be extreme cold demonstrated the value of her profession. Ling Chu invited her to become a crewmate, built a Divination Room for her, and brought her into the Ghost Ship fleet 126. Squid Ball later publicly shared the extreme-cold warning despite uncertainty over whether doing so would aid enemies, helping players prepare for the disaster 176 325. Her forecast became widely trusted after the Calamity lasted twenty-three days and players who had prepared based on her warning survived 325.

Appearance

Squid Ball is a girl with a doll-like face. After six days stranded on the Level Four Island, she appeared pale, exhausted, and malnourished 112 124.

  • Often wears a light-blue short robe 530.
  • Wears practical trousers beneath her skirt-like clothing and is a light, elegant dancer 141.
  • Uses a staff and a Prism Shield in combat 266 427.
  • Wears Rift Whale Leather Armor, a Unique-quality fitted leather jacket that increases Strength and Constitution by two, raises defense by 10%, and improves shock absorption by 20% 654.
  • Her Divination Room uses a round table draped in dark-purple velvet, Tarot cards, and a crystal-ball lamp 325 535.

Personality

Squid Ball is outspoken, quick-witted, and prone to taunting opponents in public chat. She publicly mocked Black Spade K’s soot-covered appearance after his ship’s internal conflict 206. Her sharp tongue nonetheless attracts a small fan club, which embarrasses her 658. Ling Chu gradually adopts some of Squid Ball’s incisive style, to Squid Ball’s great pride 708.

She is compassionate about other players’ survival and struggles with the responsibility of revealing Calamity predictions. She ultimately refuses to become a savior or to sell such information for Sea Shells, believing she can help others only temporarily and that they must still learn self-sufficiency 326. She can also be mischievous when irritated, once withholding her extreme-heat prediction from the Public Channel because of her anger toward the Holy Army 327.

Despite being initially anxious in combat and frightened by ghosts, fog creatures, and the Ghost Doll, Squid Ball persists in training. She improves her Star Drawing Technique through repeated practice and becomes capable of delivering decisive attacks under pressure 426 538 566 585. Although easily frightened in life-threatening situations, she investigates dangerous areas and continues participating in Public Challenges, Whispering Tower expeditions, and the White Bone Labyrinth 606 668.

Squid Ball is emotionally receptive to history and legacy. After witnessing the Elven Clan Leader’s final instructions, she develops a personal mission to preserve and accurately translate Elven history for both players and native inhabitants 321. If she returns to Blue Star, she hopes to operate a divination-focused social-media account 630.

Abilities & Skills

Divination

As an Astrologer, Squid Ball uses Tarot cards and crystal-ball readings to identify threats, interpret omens, and predict Calamities.

  • Stargazing can forecast weather for the next two days at a cost of 10 Mana 124.
  • Divination uses divination-related items to determine an event’s outcome once per day for 30 Mana; its accuracy is influenced by Squid Ball’s mental state and surroundings 124.
  • Predicted the extreme-cold Calamity before its arrival 126 176.
  • Identified extreme heat through a Tarot spread featuring the upright Sun 325.
  • Divined that the following disaster would be eerie fog, warning that it would distort direction, time, reality, and marine life 535.
  • Read danger surrounding Ling Chu’s Level Four Island expedition, including chaos, delays, destruction, fire, and a mermaid-like shadow 144.
  • Determined that Ling Chu’s entry into a later Public Challenge had been externally manipulated, interpreting the upright Tower, reversed Wheel of Fortune, and upright Hermit as sudden interference, loss of control, and isolated but resilient action 689.
  • Her readings can be exhausting and are not universally trusted by players 325.

Astrologer’s Wish Resonance

A profession skill that influences random acquisition outcomes.

  • Can designate a non-equipment item or material as the target.
  • For 24 hours, significantly increases the probability of obtaining that target through treasure chests, fishing, exploration, and public-challenge rewards.
  • Has a 72-hour cooldown 264.
  • Squid Ball forgot to activate it before opening a System Blind Box, much to her regret 597.
  • Used the Skill at Ling Chu’s request to seek Glimmering Feather, a required material for upgrading a ship to Level Seven 534.

Star Drawing Technique

Squid Ball channels starlight through her Prism Shield into a focused beam attack.

  • Consumes 10 Mana and uses the power of visible stars to release a light-element beam 385.
  • Initially had never cast it successfully and feared failing during the battle against Adrian 426.
  • Drew down starlight during the Bright City battle; after You Jiali created an opening, she struck Adrian’s hand 427.
  • With the Prism Shield amplifying the beam, she burned through Adrian’s abdomen and destroyed the remaining eyeballs there 428.
  • Requires a usable view of starlight and is especially difficult during the eerie-fog disaster 585.
  • Her early attacks revealed their intended target through her line of sight, a weakness identified by Huang Xiaowen 538.
  • Overcame the fog’s obstruction by calming herself and sensing the obscured starlight above it, allowing her to strike the Executioners 566.
  • Destroyed the Black Mist Ball by drawing down a powerful beam through a hole opened in the tower roof 585.

Artifact Identification and Decipherment

Squid Ball can interpret ancient symbols and obtain historical visions from artifacts.

  • Offered to decipher mysterious runes on ancient stone slabs 171.
  • Used artifact identification on an ancient Elven book, witnessing the Elven Clan Leader’s instructions to preserve the Tree of Luga’s seeds and scatter nine Sacred Stone Slabs 321.
  • The Thorn Crown enabled her to understand the ancient Elven language in the historical vision 321.
  • Cannot obtain new scenes by repeatedly using the skill on the same artifact 321.
  • Became determined to translate the ancient Elven book accurately and completely 321.
  • Deciphered the fourth Elven Stone Slab, revealing a clue for luring a powerful sea creature: flesh and blood can divert a ferocious deep-sea creature from a voyage route 534.

Staff and Ninja’s Belt

Squid Ball trains with supplementary combat equipment but initially lacks accuracy and control.

  • Her staff can fire stingers, though most of her first practice shots missed the target 266.
  • The staff can deploy smoke bombs stored in its internal slots; her first attempt detonated the smoke against herself 266.
  • Used bee stings against Holy Army players during ship combat, killing two from a distance 330.
  • Bee stings had limited effect against cotton doll soldiers 426.

Bumper Ball Master

Squid Ball participated in the Ghost Ship team’s clearance of a Whispering Tower inhabited by Thousand-Year Bone creatures.

  • Helped establish barriers to redirect rolling bone balls into the tower’s cave entrance 654.
  • Received the Bumper Ball Master title and the active Skill Bumper Ball with the team after the tower was cleared 654.

Eerie Fog and Whispering Towers
