Background
Before arriving in the survival game, Huang Xiaowen ran a casino. After her father died, she felt she had little left to return to on Blue Star. She lost two fingers after gambling at another casino and losing, an experience that shaped her guarded but defiant attitude toward gambling and debt. 93 94
She initially stayed aboard Ling Chu's ship as a paying guest, astonished by the ship's proper beds and lavish meals. Her casual one-throw kill of a seagull revealed that she was far more capable with a dagger than Ling Chu had expected. 54
Huang Xiaowen became an increasingly dependable ally through pirate encounters and public challenges. After losing a blackjack wager—her life against five Fine-quality shuriken—she accepted Ling Chu's Fleet Recruitment Card and became the Ghost Ship's first formal crew member. Ling Chu's trust in her rested on Huang Xiaowen's refusal to cheat during the wager despite having the opportunity. 59 68 69
Appearance
Huang Xiaowen is slightly smaller than Ling Chu, standing two centimeters shorter and weighing five jin less. She is missing two fingers from her past gambling life. 94 224
- During the Bright City infiltration, she disguised herself as a male wine merchant with a small mustache, linen shirt, faded leather vest, lowered voice, and leather wine bag. 394
- She commonly carries shuriken and a dagger, presenting herself as a reckless, mobile Gambler in combat. 201
- Her distinctive equipment includes an icy-blue Ice Crystal Dagger and, at times, a cigar from A Cigarette's Time. 514 566
Personality
Huang Xiaowen is bold, impulsive, and deeply fond of gambling. She accepts high-stakes bets readily, enjoys teaching skeletons to play mahjong for minor stakes, and is willing to use her Magician abilities to cheat when she believes she can get away with it. Her attempt to cheat the Sea God Salos, however, ended in severe losses and debt. 68 70 460
She is loyal to Ling Chu and increasingly conscious of her role on the Ghost Ship. Rather than remain idle while other crewmates improve, she volunteers for public challenges to advance her professions and avoid becoming a burden. 339
Despite fearing spiders and snakes, Huang Xiaowen continues fighting when her companions need protection. She has also shown a protective streak toward Lingering Wind and Fading Moon, shielding her during the Crab Spider assault and coordinating poison-gas tactics around her. 112 114 455
Her enthusiasm for food is intense and often theatrical; she is particularly excited by hot meals, fried chicken, fries, and elaborate cuisine. 54 243 597 599
Abilities & Skills
Gambler Profession
Huang Xiaowen's Gambler abilities enhance mobility, combat speed, and chance-based tactical options.
- Fate Dice (Advanced) — Rolls a virtual die for a ten-minute positive buff at a cost of 20 Mana; its strongest outcomes greatly improve movement speed, attack speed, critical-hit rate, or all attributes. 82
- She used an earlier version of Fate Dice to gain attack-speed bonuses against Wu Fei Wu, allowing her to match the Ninja's reactions. 59
- Her high rolls have repeatedly enabled her to evade stronger melee opponents and overwhelm them with rapid shuriken attacks. 285 424
Card in Person
Card in Person lets Huang Xiaowen throw a virtual playing card and teleport to its location.
- Costs 10 Mana and can remain active for up to ten minutes. 224
- She can throw the card accurately up to roughly fifteen meters, though the skill itself has no fixed teleportation-distance limit. 224
- She uses cards as emergency return beacons, escape anchors, and mid-combat repositioning points. 204 224 611
- The skill can be limited by Mana; during the Ghost Doll encounter, she ran low enough that she could only use Let's Swap once more. 612
Magician Profession
Huang Xiaowen's Magician profession complements her Gambler mobility with positional manipulation.
- Let's Swap — Exchanges the positions of targets within a maximum range of fifty meters. 224
- Can swap herself with objects, allies, enemies, or embedded thrown weapons. 285 416 582 584
- Used to move Ling Chu into advantageous positions, rescue You Jiali, evade attacks, and disrupt enemies by replacing her with obstacles or allied soldiers. 285 424 430 432
- She also uses it for mischief, such as swapping Squid Ball's candied chestnut with its shell. 218
- Magician's Disguise — Acquired with the Magician profession; its detailed effects have not been specified. 218
- Telekinetic Grab — Obtained after reaching Magician Tier 2; can remotely seize small objects, including Ling Chu's newspaper and Babu Jiujiu's feathered hairpin. 385 547
Concealed-Weapon Combat
Huang Xiaowen is highly accurate with shuriken, throwing knives, and daggers.
- Killed a seagull with a single Iron Dagger throw. 54
- Can throw multiple shuriken at once with precision, including simultaneous hits on separate Crab Spiders' eyes. 113
- Cleared a Holy Army sentry with three shuriken placed in the temple, throat, and chest. 284
- Uses shuriken alongside movement skills to pressure opponents while remaining difficult to pin down. 285 424
Ice Crystal Dagger
Her preferred close-range weapon is an reforged Exotic-quality Ice Crystal Dagger.
- Grants Agility +1 and can alter or extend its blade length. 514
- Wounds inflicted by it can cause Frostbite. 514
- Its freezing enchantment can turn targets into ice sculptures, allowing Huang Xiaowen to shatter frozen enemies. 566 578
- The effect is less effective against entities made primarily of black mist, freezing only a single physical arm rather than the entire target. 584
Equipment
- Ice Crystal Dagger — Exotic dagger with Frostbite, +1 Agility, and an alterable blade length. 514
- Fine Shuriken ×5 — Given to her after joining the Ghost Ship; her standard concealed weapons. 61 69
- Ritual Dagger — Unique dagger that can remove a target buff and apply stacking Misfortune, increasing damage received. 139
- Blow to Enlarge Shield — Unique kite shield that expands to five times its size for ten minutes when blown on twice; requires sufficient Strength to wield. 114
- Golden King Dice — Unique die that guarantees its second roll matches the first, then resets. 333
- A Cigarette's Time — Legendary cigar case that grants Absolute Focus, reduces skill cooldowns, and protects nearby allies from mental abnormal states while lit. 549 566
Relationships
- Ling Chu — Captain and close ally. Ling Chu recruited Huang Xiaowen after testing her character through a blackjack wager; Huang Xiaowen follows her combat plans with strong trust. 68 69 80
- Lingering Wind and Fading Moon — Fellow crewmate whom Huang Xiaowen protects in battle; they coordinate shuriken, shields, antidotes, and poison-gas bombs. 114 132
- Squid Ball — Fellow crewmate and frequent target of Huang Xiaowen's pranks; the two also trade playful insults. 218 385 599
- You Jiali — Combat partner. They work together in stealth raids, against the Holy Army, and during later tower challenges. 284 292 575
- Big Gold Tooth — Mahjong opponent and target of an ongoing feud after Huang Xiaowen suspects him of poisoning her cup. 70 218
- Salos — Sea God who defeated her repeatedly at mahjong and dice after countering her attempts to use Let's Swap. 460
