Two cannonballs flew past the Nautilus's port side, slamming into a section of railing behind it. A huge spray of splinters and debris exploded outward, and the entire ship shuddered. The fighting on deck briefly ground to a halt.
"Enemy attack!!"
"There's an enemy ship on the port side! They're firing at us!"
Several Pirates hurried toward the railing.
Lucas also whipped around. Not far away, a massive ship had drawn near without anyone noticing, entering cannon range.
Canvas fluttered wildly in the night wind, and the symbol of a Wine Barrel could vaguely be seen hanging on it.
Could it really be... the Wine Barrel?!
Before Lucas could get a clear look, the disguised canvas bearing the Wine Barrel symbol was torn away piece by piece. The real sails hidden behind it slowly rose along the masts.
The black canvas spread fully in the wind. A ghastly white Skeletons head appeared in the center, blue Ghost Fire burning in its two empty eye sockets. It was the unmistakable Skeletons sail that now belonged to the Ghost Ship.
The Wine Barrels piled on the deck were pushed aside, revealing the Ballistae and cannons hidden beneath them. Countless figures surged onto the deck from the cabins and from behind the canvas.
Lucas narrowed his eyes. Those weren't people at all.
Skeletons stood shoulder to shoulder at the bow, clutching swords, guns, bows, and crossbows. Blue soul fire burned in their empty eye sockets. There were so many that the end could not be seen at a glance. From a distance, they looked like an army of bones crawling out of the world of the dead.
And the Skeletons standing at the very front looked more and more familiar to Lucas.
