Academy years

Hanabi entered the Ninja Academy’s first year at age four, having enrolled early through her skill with the Hyuga Clan’s Gentle Fist. She served as First Year Class 2’s “class boss” and openly declared her ambition to become a Hyuga genius. 7

She challenged Qinglong to a spar soon after meeting him. Although his speed kept her from landing a strike, the defeat turned into admiration; she waited for him after school and decided she wanted to learn from him. 7 8

Hanabi became close to Kiyotaki, treating him to extravagant meals and recommending that Hinata train with him to gain greater control over her strength. She also defended Hinata from bullies, using a joint lock, elbow strike, and over-the-shoulder throw learned from Kiyotaki’s combat methods. 12 13

Kidnapping and return

Kumogakure ninja abducted Hanabi from Konoha and handed her to Yugito Nii for transport to the Land of Lightning. Hiashi, Neji, Tenten, and Shikamaru’s team pursued the kidnappers, while Qinglong immediately joined the rescue after learning of the abduction. 76

Qinglong recovered Hanabi and returned her safely to Konoha on the Flying Nimbus. During the escape, she showed courage by sealing Eight-Tails tentacles. 79

Hanabi led Hinata and Tenten in the global Dragon Ball search after receiving a Dragon Ball Radar from Kiyotaki. She successfully returned to Konoha with all seven Dragon Balls. 320
