Background

Yu initially presented herself as the daughter of an Uchiha Chunin who died on a mission and a Byakugan-bearing mother who died giving birth to her. According to this account, her father concealed her unusual eyes, but after his death the Uchiha clan offered only minimal support; she was ostracized by other Uchiha children and lived alone in a forest cabin. She used a contact lens to hide her left eye. 8

At the Ninja Academy, Yu openly declared her ambition to restore the Uchiha's feared reputation, as well as her dislike of weak teammates. Her capability already matched her attitude: at six, she located Haku despite his concealment, correctly identified additional kidnappers that he had missed, and assessed the threat to an abducted Hyuga child. 4 5

Yu and Haku cooperated to rescue Hyuga Riko from Kumogakure spies. Yu used the Great Fireball Technique and a convincing feigned retreat to draw two enemies away, enabling Haku to pursue Riko's captor.
