Lin Yifei jogged a few steps. When she heard no footsteps behind her, she couldn't help stopping and looking back. Jiang Yue was following at an unhurried pace, twenty or thirty meters behind her, and he stopped with a cheerful smile.
Though she'd said she wouldn't pay him any mind, if Jiang Yue really hadn't followed, she would have been terribly disappointed.
"Why are you staying so far back? I'm not going to eat you," Lin Yifei said with an annoyed stomp.
Jiang Yue smiled. "This distance is just right for me to watch you show off your skills, Lin."
Lin Yifei had been trying to keep a stern expression, but she couldn't hold it anymore and burst out laughing.
Then she nodded with a beaming smile. "You'd better keep up, then. Don't miss a single spectacular moment."
Lin Yifei was remarkably patient with the man she'd resolved to win over.
Soon, Lin Yifei stopped at their next destination.
It was less than a thousand meters from the previous area, along the same inland river.
They had simply left the commercial district around Yunshan Times Square.
This area was fairly well-known in Star City, famous for a tower.
The tower was said to be over a thousand years old. Like many places in the country, local legend held that it had originally been built to suppress a river demon and stop it from causing annual floods.
Over the course of more than a thousand years, through the rise and fall of several dynasties, the tower had been repaired many times. It had long since become one of Star City's popular tourist attractions.
Now, though, this place was just as desolate as the other areas, without a single person in sight.
