Background / History

Xu Jiujiu attended a martial-soul awakening ceremony as the imperial family's representative when Shu Yan awakened the Heavenly Snow Woman Martial Soul. The resulting extreme cold froze the hall and triggered snowfall, prompting Nebula Douluo Manyi and the imperial guards to secure the witnesses and bring Shu Yan into the imperial palace. 1

After learning of Shu Yan's unprecedented Extreme Ice Martial Soul, she proposed a way to keep his identity concealed while he remained under imperial protection. Xu Jiawei ultimately arranged for Shu Yan to study under her, tying the gifted orphan more closely to the Star Luo royal family. 2

At fourteen, Xu Jiujiu accompanied Shu Yan's party to the Extreme North Land for his fourth Soul Ring. A once-in-a-century blizzard nearly overwhelmed her Soul Elder cultivation until Shu Yan gave her an Ice Crystal that eased the cold. 2 When Shu Yan was later taken away by the Snow Empress, his eight-month absence left Xu Jiujiu exhausted, thin, and unable to rest properly. 22 24
