Background / History

After Kikyo's death, Naraku spent roughly fifty years traveling across Nihon, seeking power and local secrets while surviving repeated near-death encounters through his unusual body and elaborate schemes. He learned of the sealed Dragon Bone Spirit during this period. 639

Naraku accumulated and absorbed numerous youkai, including hundreds from his time as Onigumo. The resulting mass of incompatible flesh gave him exceptional reserves and survivability, but its impurities also hindered his overall growth. 542 671

Knowledge taken from a Demi-Lich gave Naraku access to Dungeons & Dragons-style magic and new methods of modifying his body. He used this knowledge to create pawns, develop magical tactics, and experiment with stronger physical forms. 522 602

Naraku has no fixed appearance; his body can separate, reform, and assume human-like or monstrous guises. In one human guise, he appeared as the refined Hitomi Kagekiyo. 542

Naraku is calculating, cautious, and fundamentally distrustful. He relies on decoys, surveillance, traps, and proxy forces rather than risking his true body, and he will retreat immediately when an operation becomes unfavorable. 542 643

He has little loyalty or pride toward those beneath him. Kagura and Kanna are extensions of himself in his view, valued only as long as they remain useful; he controls Kagura through possession of her heart and openly treats her as disposable. 603

Lin Yun's strength made Naraku increasingly fearful and defensive. After observing Lin Yun's party defeat powerful enemies, he chose to lie low, prioritize acquiring Shikon Jewel fragments, and accelerate his body modifications. 657

Musashi Castle Assault

Naraku exploited the Hojo army's confusion to attack Musashi Castle from the rear. He dispelled the sanctuary's protective barrier and sent ghouls and undead forces into the castle while attempting to unleash accumulated power. 540 541

Color Monk's Wind Tunnel disrupted Naraku's spellcasting, while Bald Head and Warrior Girl damaged his defenses. Naraku responded with decoys, miasma, Exhaustion Wave, and an attempt to seize Kagome's Shikon Jewel shard, but Lin Yun's Hulkbuster armor intercepted him. 541 543

Conflict with the Light and Dark Apostles

The Light and Dark Apostles invaded Naraku's Konosu castle and used Anti-Magic Field to strip away his defenses. Naraku escaped their assault by sacrificing parts of his body, leaving only fragments for Lin Yun and Cow Girl to contain. 546 547

Kagura's Rebellion

After Kagura returned injured from her encounter with Lin Yun's group, Naraku admitted he had used her as a test subject and expendable sacrifice. He ignored her demands for help, demonstrated that her wind blades could no longer harm his reinforced body, and threatened her with the heart he controlled. 602 603

Dragon Bone Spirit Scheme

Naraku identified the sealed Dragon Bone Spirit as a weapon against Inuyasha and Lin Yun. He corroded its seal, tested its strength with a puppet, and offered cooperation while concealing his plan to benefit regardless of the Dragon Bone Spirit's fate. 639 641

After restoring the Dragon Bone Spirit with a demonic-energy crystal, Naraku fled using a baboon-robed substitute rather than remain for the approaching battle. 642 643

Demiplane Defeat

Threatened by Lin Yun's party, Naraku hid inside a rock-garden hybrid within his demiplane and prepared decoys, traps, and a plan to banish intruders. Lin Yun identified his true core with Disintegrate, forcing Naraku's outer shell to collapse. 670 671

With his reconstruction incomplete, Naraku expelled a shadow centipede and shadow bat carrying Shikon Jewel fragments as distractions. Lin Yun ignored the bait, confirmed Naraku's true form with Clairvoyance, and froze him using Eternal Stasis. 672
