Background / History

Clear Sky Sect upbringing

Wang Dong grows up in the Clear Sky Sect under the care of Niu Tian and Titan, whom she knows as her uncle and second uncle. They tell her that her parents are traveling and promise that they will return when she marries. Before learning the truth, she sometimes suspects that this story conceals their deaths 294 377.

Her childhood includes access to cultivation treasures. During her first academy holiday, however, she complains of being confined to the sect's castle and relies on purchased comics and novels to relieve her boredom 41 79.

Arrival at Shrek Academy

Wang Dong enters Shrek disguised as a boy and becomes Huo Yutong's roommate. An Zhen questions her disguise after learning that her martial soul is the Light Goddess Butterfly, which he associates with beautiful women. Both roommates soon discover that the other is also female 6 7.

Initially suspicious of An Zhen's generosity, Wang Dong argues with Huo Yutong over his intentions. Nevertheless, she accompanies them to their milk tea stall and later helps operate it. She also agrees to assist Huo Yutong with physically demanding activities under their strict teacher, Zhou Yi 8 16 17.

Romance and academy battles

Wang Dong develops feelings for An Zhen but initially limits their intimacy to holding hands in his dream world. Her reluctance is partly concern for Huo Yutong: she does not want their relationship to hurt her roommate. Wang Dong and An Zhen subsequently acknowledge their feelings, and Huo Yutong eventually discovers their closeness 24 25 54.

Her partnership with Huo Yutong produces both a shared cultivation force and the martial soul fusion skill The Withering in Brilliance · Golden Path. They use their teamwork during the Newcomer Assessment, while Wang Dong later helps An Zhen's group win selection for the Shrek Reserve Team 43 48 99.

Learning that An Zhen has concealed several other relationships causes a serious confrontation. Wang Dong accepts the situation only after demanding honesty and establishing rules; she remains openly jealous of further additions to his household 87 90.

Visit to the Sun Moon Empire

After Huo Yutong leaves for the exchange program, Wang Dong insists on visiting her despite the political risks. Shrek eventually permits the journey with safety guarantees 256 290 291.

In Mingdu, Wang Dong reunites with Huo Yutong and discovers that An Zhen has been impersonating her friend. She then meets his other partners and learns that he is the Sun Moon Empire's regent. Despite her surprise and jealousy, she trusts him and stays to spend time with both him and Huo Yutong 292 293 300 301.

Wang Dong and Tang Wutong

Wang Dong is not simply another name for Tang Wutong. Her consciousness develops within their shared body and soul after Tang Wutong's original consciousness is sealed and sent to the mortal realm. An Zhen recognizes them as two distinct people with a claim to the same body, rather than treating Wang Dong as an intruder 380.

Tang San's spiritual sense acts as a seal within that body. An Zhen and Ilaikesi neutralize it, releasing Tang Wutong's consciousness; An Zhen places Tang Wutong in his virtual world and returns Wang Dong to control of her body 379.

The two confront each other over their identities and An Zhen. Wang Dong establishes that her consciousness had already been moved into the virtual world before the seal was extracted, confirming that she is the Wang Dong who lived those experiences. An Zhen proposes creating a separate vessel, and Wang Dong volunteers to take the new body because the original was initially Tang Wutong's 380 382.

The revelation also undermines Wang Dong's understanding of her family: Tang San, Xiao Wu, Niu Tian, and Titan recognize Tang Wutong as the person they are protecting. An Zhen's partners and Shrek's elders instead affirm their commitment to Wang Dong herself 378 381 382.

Later life

Wang Dong later serves as the combat examiner for Nan Qiuqiu's Inner Court assessment. Although she disapproves of An Zhen's apparent relationship with Nan Qiuqiu, she conducts the assessment professionally and fairly 357 358.

She remains part of An Zhen's household in later chapters. After his extended seclusion, she is described as more mature and resilient while retaining her liveliness and possessiveness 517 530.
