The Ishida Family's Support
Before entering the Seireitei, Ishida Uryū already had his own plans.
From the moment Uryū learned from Tsuna's pre-class lesson that Kurotsuchi Mayuri was the culprit who killed his grandfather, Sōken Ishida, he was already prepared to visit Kurotsuchi Mayuri.
Because Urahara Kisuke was the former director of the Technology Development Bureau, and Kurotsuchi Mayuri was the current director, Uryū approached Urahara Kisuke immediately after class.
"Manager Urahara, how much does an internal map of Seireitei cost?" Uryū asked respectfully.
"Why are you asking this? You're smart enough to know that this trip to Seireitei is a special training exercise for you. Maps and such aren't important; what's important is improving your ability to adapt to changing situations in actual combat with the enemy," Urahara Kisuke said.
"I know, but there are some things I have to do, for my beloved grandfather."
Upon hearing this, Uryū immediately understood his meaning. He tapped his temples with his folding fan Urahara, looking somewhat troubled, and said, "I understand that you want revenge against Kurotsuchi, but in doing so, you're destined to face a Captain-level enemy. Have you thought it through?"
"I will be fully prepared." Uryū's expression was very calm, like that of a seasoned fishmonger.
"If possible, I wouldn't like you to face off against Nemu. He's no less dangerous." Seeing Uryū's determined look, Urahara sighed and said, "Alright, I have some advice for you if you're going to face Nemu: don't waste time with him. Nemu's research capabilities are very strong. Nobody knows how many strange and wonderful gadgets he has accumulated over the years."
"I understand, thank you very much, Manager Urahara." Uryū bowed to Urahara.
At Uryū's repeated requests, Urahara told Uryū the location of the Squad 12 in the Seireitei and instructed him to avoid fighting Uryū Kurotsuchi Mayuri in the Development Bureau, as it was his warehouse of research results and could easily damage the bureau's equipment.
Upon returning home, Uryū immediately shared his thoughts with his parents. In this timeline, Uryū and Ryūken no longer harbored much resentment towards each other, and the father and son could communicate normally.
"You don't need to do it, Sōken ...and you wouldn't want to see you put yourself in danger." After hearing Uryū's thoughts, Ryūken hesitated for a long time before finally saying this.
"I'm not doing this for Grandpa, I'm doing it for myself, for the me who could only helplessly watch Grandpa being taken away!" Uryū argued, "Father, if you had been there, Grandpa would definitely have survived, right!"
After learning Quincy abilities from Ryūken, Uryū realized just how strong his father truly was. The title of the last Pure-Blood Quincy was no exaggeration; no matter how hard he trained, he was always easily defeated by Ryūken.
With such power, Uryū didn't believe that Ryūken lacked the ability to save Sōken. The only explanation for why Ryūken wasn't present at the scene was that Ryūken himself didn't want to save people.
Hearing his son's somewhat reproachful words, Ryūken fell silent. His relationship with Sōken was just so-so, but that didn't mean he really wanted to watch Sōken die. The reason he didn't intervene wasn't that he didn't want to, but that he couldn't.
"Uryū, don't blame your father. It's not that we didn't want to, but we were ordered by Father not to intervene," Hae comforted Uryū, holding his palm.
"Because of the difference in abilities, the Bleach have always been hostile to us Quincy. In order to eliminate the Quincy, they have been constantly hunting Quincy down. As a result, the Quincy bloodline in the World of the Living has been rapidly dwindling. By your father's generation, only the Ishida and Kurosaki families remained."
"In order to preserve the last bloodline of us Quincy, Father planned to negotiate with Soul Society as the last Quincy in the World of the Living. He ordered us not to attack Bleach and to conceal the last trace of the Quincy bloodline."
"But who knew that before Father took action, a large number of Void invaded the World of the Living. Father had to fight those Voids. At that time, Ryūken and I had already arrived at the scene, but we saw Father's instructions strictly forbidding us from intervening."
"After Ryūken's investigation, it turns out that Bleach had been lying in ambush nearby. Those Bleach just watched as Father fought against the Hollow to protect you, without offering any help whatsoever."
"At that moment, we Ryūken understood Father's meaning. Father wanted to use his own life to end the Bleach's pursuit of the Quincy, which is why he forbade us to take action."
"Therefore, Father suffered a severe blow from a Hollow in the face of Bleach. After using his last strength to destroy the last Hollow and protect you, he died from his injuries and exhaustion."
"My father wanted to sacrifice his own life to preserve our chance to survive. Since then, the Bleach has not appeared in this World of the Living, and we have gained a brief period of peace."
"Uryū, don't blame Ryūken. He was also in great pain to witness his father's death."
Hae explained some of Uryū's unknown past to him. If he hadn't surrendered, Uryū would have found it hard to imagine that Sōken Ishida, who had developed various Quincy tools, would be captured by a few unknown Quincy right before his eyes.
"Alright, Hae, that was Sōken's own choice." Mentioning the past, Ryūken's hand trembled imperceptibly, but he tried to remain calm.
"Father, are you truly unwavering about Grandpa's situation?"
Uryū's question pierced Ryūken's heart like an arrow. How could Ryūken remain unmoved? No matter how bad their relationship was, Yu Long was still his father.
"Ryūken ..." Hae looked at Ryūken with deep affection; she supported Uryū.
Hearing his wife's call and seeing the determination in his son's eyes, Ryūken asked, "Was it that brat who told you? Who is your target?"
The brat Ryūken was referring to was naturally Tsuna. In Ryūken's memory, only Tsuna would do such unnecessary things and also know information that they didn't know.
"The current captain of the Squad 12, Kurotsuchi Mayuri, is the one who ordered the Bleach to stop assisting Grandpa..." Uryū quickly shared the information about Kurotsuchi Mayuri that he had learned from Tsuna.
"The squad leader's methods are endless; such an opponent is not easy to deal with," Ryūken commented. "These next few days I will teach you the true power of Quincy, and your mother will teach you how to use and combine some abilities. Only after you have gained our approval will we allow you to go to Soul Society..."
The training time passed in the blink of an eye. Uryū put on the pure white Quincy outfit he had prepared, slung his small backpack over his shoulder, and headed to Urahara Shop, leaving Ishida Ryuuken staring blankly at his broken bow in the training ground. Uryū had truly become stronger.
After a minor hiccup, Uryū entered Seireitei aboard the Kakkaku Cannon. The only hiccup was the Kakkaku Cannon's mid-air disintegration, which not only separated his companions but also scattered them randomly throughout Seireitei, leaving them unable to determine their location for a time.
Not knowing his location was exactly what Uryū was struggling with. Urahara Kisuke only gave him the route from the White Path Gate to the Squad 12. Since Uryū only cared about Kurotsuchi Mayuri as his enemy, he didn't bother with a more detailed map.
Who would have thought that getting lost would be such a problem so soon after entering Soul Society? Now Uryū needs to figure out where he is.
Compared to Chad and Tatsuki's good fortune of being unnoticed when they first landed, Uryū's luck was not so good. Before he even set foot on solid ground, he was already being targeted by a group of Bleach.
Uryū's original plan was to first evade the pursuit of these Bleach, avoid causing any trouble, and then find a lone individual to interrogate about their exact location and the route to the Squad 12.
The reality differed from Uryū's plan. Uryū never expected that no matter which alley he turned into, he would always encounter Bleach soon afterward. Gradually, a large group of Bleach with knives were following behind Uryū.
Uryū, being an outsider, was certainly not as familiar with the routes as the locals. After a chase scene, Uryū was finally cornered by the Grim Bleach at every turn of the alley. He sighed silently, realizing he hadn't intended to make such a big fuss.
"Ryoka, where do you think you're going?! Brothers, let's attack!"
At someone's shout, two groups of Bleach drew their swords and charged at Uryū. During the previous chase, Uryū had figured out that these guys were members of the Squad 11. These muscle-bound guys were of course not going to let Uryū, Ryoka who had appeared in front of them, go.
Intending to avoid battle, he attracted even more opponents. Uryū couldn't really assess his luck. He reached into the pouch behind his waist and pulled out a folding short bow. Now, he had no choice but to fight to escape their pursuit.
Uryū was extremely agile, using Reishi to quickly approach his enemy as if skating. He easily dodged the opponent's attack while simultaneously disrupting his opponent's balance with a palm strike. Then, he fired an arrow at his opponent with the hand holding the bow. The Reishi arrow pierced through the opponent's arm, pinning him to the wall.
After being trained by Ryūken, Uryū has learned Ryūken's cool style of shooting the Spirit Bow and Arrows with one hand in his pocket and the other hand. The short bow in his hand was taken from Ryūken's warehouse.
Actually, Ryūken's one-handed archery technique wasn't entirely for showing off; it was part of a series of combat techniques. However, in the original story, Uryū wasn't very strong, so Ryūken didn't even have to lift a finger, and it just became Ryūken showing off.
This agile, rapid-fire short bow perfectly complements Ryūken's close-quarters combat style, which can also be called bow fighting. Influenced by Ryūken, Masaki Kurosaki also favors this fighting style; otherwise, how could the famous scene of using himself as bait to lure Hollows into close combat have been created?
The combination of his shortbow and melee combat skills allowed Uryū to move like a wolf among sheep, quickly eliminating the Bleach who attacked him. The Bleach weren't entirely stupid; occasionally, they would manage to land a slash on Uryū, but the Uryū felt like hitting steel, causing him no harm whatsoever.
One after another, figures were thrown out of the pile of Bleach, each followed by a blue Reishi arrow that always accurately struck one of their limbs, rendering them incapable of fighting for a short time.
The reason why Uryū uses this fighting style is that the only time a spiritual pressure fluctuation is generated is when he shoots the Reishi arrow. Those spiritual pressure fluctuations are very small and are not easy to attract the attention of others.
If Uryū hadn't been trying to conceal his presence, he could have simply unleashed his signature Hirenkyaku on these Bleach, instantly taking down these grunts without having to expend so much effort.
After a period of commotion, the entire alley was filled with Bleach from the Squad 11, some lying down, some hanging. The battle was over, and it was time to ask one of Bleach for directions.
Uryū glanced around and saw a Bleach huddled in the corner, his hands covering his head, carrying a blue cloth bag on his back. There were no marks of Reishi arrows on his body.
The absence of the Reishi Arrow proves that this Bleach wasn't among the group that attacked Uryū. Interesting, does the Squad 11, a combat division, have someone like this who refuses to fight?
