Background / History

Quincy powers have been passed down for a thousand years and have repeatedly clashed with the Shinigami. Their method of destroying Hollows directly converts the target into Reishi rather than sending its soul through the normal cycle, creating the historic basis for Soul Society's conflict with Quincy communities. 8 252

A millennium earlier, the Quincy state was known as the Light Empire. According to Tsuna's intelligence, it attacked the East Bureau before concealing itself in the shadows and becoming the Wandenreich. The empire's original territory was preserved in shadow for nearly a thousand years and later restored by Yhwach's returning legion. 405 408 422

The World of the Living Quincy retained a separate, traditional lineage centered on the Ishida family. Following Yhwach's Auswählen against mixed-blood Quincy, Urahara identifies Ryūken as the only remaining “true Quincy” with a complete inheritance. 8

Yhwach's Auswählen took the lives and powers of many mixed-blood Quincy roughly six or seven years before the projected return of the Quincy King. It can seize Quincy life and power for redistribution; Yhwach later sacrifices marginalized members of his own army to revive stronger soldiers such as Cang Du and Bazz-B. 164 404

Wandenreich

The Wandenreich is Yhwach's Quincy empire, ruled through absolute loyalty to the Quincy King. Its elite combatants, the Sternritter, possess individual Saint Letters and Vollständig forms. 166 404

Reishi Manipulation

All Quincy techniques begin with controlling Reishi. Quincy condense and shape ambient Reishi into weapons, movement techniques, defensive patterns, and specialized equipment. 8 9

• Spirit Bow and Arrows — the standard Quincy combat method; Reishi arrows are used to destroy opponents. 8
• Most Quincy first form a Spirit Bow prototype, then use it as the basis for a personally crafted bow with faster formation and greater power. 9
• Quincy destruction reduces Hollows to Reishi left at the site of battle instead of returning them to the normal soul cycle. 252
