Background

Li Mo obtains the Mystic Box when a hunter’s wife attempts to burn it. After repeatedly reading its accounts of immortal mountains, strange powers, and lightning tribulations, he enters an unusually vivid dream during a thunderstorm. His improved understanding of herbs the following morning leads him to connect the experience with the book 2 3.

The hunter later describes the same progression from curiosity to dependence, followed by terrifying perceptions in waking life. Although Li Mo considers abandoning the book, its benefits persuade him to continue. After Xiao Man’s death, he explicitly chooses its dangerous possibilities over returning to an ordinary life 9 10 13.

• Misty Demon Cores: Their connection to the dreamscape is unconfirmed. Li Mo has encountered no other living creatures there and rejects hunting the unidentified cloud shadows at his current strength 37.
• Duotian Sect connection: After hearing about the sect, Li Mo notices a resemblance to the dreamscape’s apparent principles, but lacks the knowledge to establish a relationship 49.
