Background / History

Miyu is a princess and Divine Child from a parallel world. Her clan's Divine Children possess the potential to grant wishes and save the world, though this ability is believed to disappear after age seven. Miyu retained it beyond that age, including enough power to make her wish to become Shirou Emiya's true sister come true. 5 154

She became the Holy Grail vessel of her world. Her brother, Emiya Shirou, entered and won that world's Holy Grail War, wishing for Miyu to find happiness; she was consequently sent to Fuyuki. The Class Cards—the source of that war—followed her into the new world. 152

Chu Chen encountered Miyu after her arrival and installed a system in her as a backup plan. He later gave her a home, became her guardian, and enrolled her at Hohomihara Academy under the name Chu Miyu. Miyu gradually came to regard the period living with him as the warmest time she had experienced since being separated from Shirou. 3 4 7 154

Personality

Miyu is highly vigilant, rational, and reserved. She initially suspects both Chu Chen and Sapphire's motives, keeps her history hidden from the System Network, and believes that she should solve every problem alone. Her fixation on strength comes from her goal of saving Shirou. 5 6

Despite her distant manner, Miyu is not emotionless. She feels guilt when she cannot be honest with Chu Chen, is deeply moved by his kindness, and slowly learns to rely on others. Her battle with Rider teaches her that she cannot retrieve the Class Cards alone; afterward, she accepts Illya as her first friend. 6 10 11

Miyu is determined and unusually mature for her age. She volunteers to retrieve the Class Cards because they arrived with her, even intending to use their power against Ainsworth. Her determination remains tempered by fear when the prospect of confronting Ainsworth to rescue Shirou becomes real. 5 154
