Background / History

Xuanqing originated as the Purifying Mystic Bamboo, described as the first merit-based Spiritual Root between heaven and earth. After his breakthrough drew the attention of the Three Pure Ones, he chose Yuanshi Tianzun as his master through a wisp of primordial spiritual energy. Yuanshi accepted him as his first disciple and bestowed the name Xuanqing. 2

Before taking human form, Xuanqing's cultivation rose from the True Immortal realm to Mystic Immortal. Upon transforming, he forged an immaculate Dao body guided by Pangu's Clear Qi; Yuanshi judged its foundation to exceed expectations. 3 4

Yuanshi brought him to Jade Void Palace, where Taishang Laojun and Tongtian Cult Leader acknowledged his stable foundation and pure Dao Heart. Yuanshi then imparted the Myriad Qi Returning to Yuan Purification Technique, a method tailored to Xuanqing's merit-based spiritual-root body. 5

Xuanqing later settled at He Mountain and took in Luyao after her transformation from the Nine-Colored Deer Herb. Song Xuan, Zimo, and Lingyunzi subsequently became his disciples as well; Yuqing Daoist formally recognized all four as third-generation Jade Void Palace disciples. 12 43

After returning from the Blood Sea, Xuanqing was welcomed at Jade Void Palace and learned that Yuanshi had named him Sect Leader of the Mysterious Gate. 210

In human form, Xuanqing appears as a young man in green robes. His body carries a pure meritorious aura, while manifestations of his true form take the shape of a translucent green bamboo marked by Merit Law runes. 61 130
