Background

Origin and earlier life

Wood was born in 1986 in another universe. A time-travel event sent him hundreds of years into the past of FE33031; he passed through the Lennon Kingdom and entered Shambhala with modern memories intact. His life-long research centers on three questions: who he is, where he is, and where he is going 660 684.

In Shambhala, Wood became a formative figure in agriculture and industry, transforming kingdoms while confronting ogres and other hostile forces. He later became known across the western continent as a liberator and a divine figure associated with grain and mead 715.

Wood adopted and raised Fret Caesar under the name Hope Plark. He attempted to cure Fret, educate him in science and magic, and train him in fencing and horsemanship, but Fret's illness, isolation, and resentment eventually turned their relationship into a violent conflict 715 731 733.

Wood made a pact with the deity Amon. According to Fret's account, every Sabbath the pact grants Wood resistance to death, exceptional foresight, and unusual talent 715.

Service to Ming De

By 2025, Wood served as Ming De's minister while also working as a Red Stone train conductor and teaching at Galahad Magic Academy. He viewed these overlapping affiliations as a political liability, but used them to advise BOSS on administration, regional stability, and the management of the newly appointed kings 228.

He later became an advisor to Ming De and a member of Unnamed's task force, overseeing military logistics, reconstruction, transportation, employment, and governance across reclaimed territories 674 726.

Appearance

Wood is described as a golden-haired man with sapphire-blue eyes. His neck bears a Flash Butterfly tattoo positioned over his Adam's apple, which he uses to help restrain his unstable power 228 312.

  • He has erased the palms and fingerprints from his hands to improve his control over his Soul Power 312.
  • His demeanor can shift sharply from statue-like stillness to energetic, theatrical confidence 204.
  • His regenerative body can reconstruct severe injuries, though he still experiences pain and physical death 732 744.

Personality

Wood is calculating, observant, and exceptionally methodical. He treats trust as an expensive commodity and prioritizes objectives with detached practicality; during the Red Mountain Stone incident, he explicitly placed the artifact's safety above Jiang Xueming's life 202.

He is a gifted administrator who thinks in systems: personnel placement, resource distribution, public order, reconstruction, and the political consequences of every decision. He can be ruthless in pursuing stability, including authorizing executions and engineering the public downfall of the Jiang family's Gunsmith identity to protect wider strategic interests 228 551.

Despite his sharp tongue and exacting standards, Wood repeatedly displays compassion toward students, civilians, and people he considers his responsibility. He saves Little Mute at the cost of a leg, secretly protects Fast Knife scouts from Judas, and honors his agreement to release them during the descent into the Life Nursery 733 754 786 787.

His central flaw is obsessive idealism. Wood is consumed by the need to drill into the Earth and witness the Original Seed firsthand, accepting Judas's support, human sacrifice, and catastrophic spiritual disasters to make that goal possible 754 760 785.

Abilities & Skills

Soul Power: **[A Way Out · Life Path]**

Wood's principal Soul Power creates Mobius Rings through photographs. These temporal-spatial distortions can hide people, trap targets in loops, and return concealed individuals to reality.

  • He can use a Mobius Ring to trap Judas in a temporal loop 754.
  • He hid Fast Knife scouts rather than killing them, then released them in stages by dissolving their photograph-based Mobius Rings 754 786 787.
  • He used the ability to send Jiang Xueming back from the Life Nursery 788.
  • Wood can monitor disturbances within Mobius spaces and use the ability to intervene in local crimes 765.
  • Repeated Mobius effects can create confusing temporal paradoxes, including duplicated squad leaders and conflicting perceptions of events 754.

**[Sex Bomb]** / Baphomet's power

Wood possesses an unstable explosive power associated with Baphomet. Its spiritual pressure carries the smell of primers, mercury fulminate, and explosives 202 312.

  • His Flash Butterfly tattoo helps suppress and direct the power 312.
  • He erased his fingerprints because the power was difficult to control and had intruded on his private life 312.
  • He can perform point-blank detonations from within his own body 732 733.
  • He destroyed Fret's physical form and magic pool by detonating the bomb within himself after allowing Fret to consume his severed leg 733.
  • His Soul Power's range is notably inferior to Sixty-Three's sixteen-meter range 211.

Regeneration and resistance to death

Wood's pact and altered body allow him to survive otherwise fatal injuries.

  • Panacea can rapidly restore lost limbs, bones, tendons, skin, and nails 732.
  • During the MK-28 airburst hydrogen bomb incident, he died more than two hundred times in four hours before reforming from dust, moisture, and flesh 744.
  • His resilience does not make him immune to pain, exhaustion, or physical destruction 744.

Pheromone detection and psionic theory

As a Galahad instructor, Wood teaches pheromone analysis, Spirit Body theory, and related investigative techniques.

  • He can identify cocoon-stage spiritual pressure through pheromones, detecting Billy the Kid's condition from the steam of his sweat 209.
  • He taught Jiang Xueming how to use pheromones to identify disguised enemies and performed a makeshift autopsy on a dead flight attendant 204.
  • He lectures on Tower Spirits, Spirit Governors, and the role of spirit cores in preserving technical and cultural knowledge 312.

Strategy, administration, and engineering

Wood combines modern knowledge with political planning and industrial expertise.

  • He advised BOSS to retain Hunter King as chief administrative assistant to curb the influence of the new kings 228.
  • He created the Gunsmith codename for Jiang Xueming and positioned him as Unnamed's public representative against the Madness Butterfly Sect 228.
  • He managed reconstruction, industrial standards, shipping routes, dockyards, and family-workshop safety measures 551.
  • He directed deep-drilling operations and operated the Fangzhang Immortal Vessel during its descent toward the Life Nursery 785 786.
  • He is not a frontline combatant by specialty; he is described as a frail scholar whose strength lies outside direct battlefield fighting 812.

Equipment

  • Photographs / Polaroids — Used as the medium for Mobius Rings and the activation of [A Way Out · Life Path] 765 786.
  • Panacea — Regenerative medicine carried in multiple doses during his battle with Fret Caesar 732.
  • Club — A close-range weapon carried during the East Horse Port conflict 732.
  • Soul Artifact bow — A saint relic from Wood's earlier life, regarded in western Shambhala as a divine artifact 738.
  • Shining Stone sunglasses — Worn during his arrival at the Council of Five Kings' train platform 361.

Relationships

  • BOSS / Ming De — Wood's employer, political superior, and frequent recipient of his strategic advice. Wood acts as Ming De's minister, advisor, and loyal correspondent 228 684.
  • Jiang Xueming / Gunsmith — Student, political instrument, adversary, and eventually a person Wood secretly protects. Wood created the Gunsmith identity, concealed scouts to repay a life debt to Jiang, and later sent him safely out of the Life Nursery 228 754 788.
  • Fret Caesar / Hope Plark — Wood's adopted son. Wood raised and trained Fret, but Fret's resentment toward his father culminated in repeated attempts to kill him 715 731 733.
  • Glory / War King — A respected associate who discusses Unnamed's restructuring and the revocation of the Gunsmith title with Wood 551.
  • Judas — Patron and manipulative ally who funds Wood's drilling project. Wood outwardly serves Judas while concealing his intent to protect Gunsmith's scouts 754 760.
  • Star Official Yuheng — Wood's subordinate and student. Yuheng sacrificed himself on Wood's order to isolate a breached drill-ring section 786.
  • Little Mute — A child Wood protected from Fret's curse, losing a leg in the rescue 733.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Red Mountain Stone flight incident

Wood accompanies Jiang Xueming during the flight targeted by Sixty-Three and other enemies. He detects infiltrators through pheromones, uses disguise and deception to investigate the flight attendants, and repeatedly counters Sixty-Three's time reversals until the latter reaches the planned “Still Wind Point” 204 209 211.

He guides Jiang Xueming through the incident while withholding the truth about the time loop. His methods protect Jiang but also establish Wood as someone willing to manipulate him for a larger objective 211 218.

Unnamed strategist and instructor

Wood advises BOSS after the harvest season, proposing administrative reforms, political containment of the new kings, and Gunsmith's deployment against the Madness Butterfly Sect 228.

As a Galahad professor, he instructs advanced students in psionic theory. Later, he helps reorganize District 54 after its disaster, orders the execution of corrupt officials, and oversees measures intended to return the Jiang family to an ordinary life after Gunsmith's public “death” 312 551.

East Horse Port conflict

Wood arrives during the battle against Flash Butterfly, stops Katusha's dangerous origin-magic ritual, helps Meteor finish Flash Butterfly, and performs emergency neurosurgery on Jason Megan 731.

Fret then abducts Wood into the sky. Wood survives the fall, repeatedly regenerates with Panacea, saves Little Mute, and destroys Fret's body through a self-detonation 732 733.

Afterward, Wood survives the MK-28 hydrogen bomb's Spirit Realm disaster, dying and reforming hundreds of times before returning to BOSS and Ming De 744.

Madness Butterfly Sect and the drilling project

As Wood Abi, he leads the Madness Butterfly Sect's ultra-deep drilling project. He believes reaching the Earth's core and seeing the Original Seed will reveal an answer to humanity's problems 754.

To obtain adamantine, funding, and blood sacrifices, Wood allies himself with Judas and becomes responsible for spiritual disasters that kill on a massive scale 760 785. Even so, he retains a concealed loyalty to Gunsmith, honoring an agreement to release Fast Knife scouts as the drilling vessel descends 754 786 787.

At the Life Nursery, Wood heals and grows younger through the Garden of All Things, sends Gunsmith away with [A Way Out], then enters the Nursery himself. His body begins to disintegrate as he tries to observe and measure “Mother,” leaving him frightened and alone 788.

Shambhala campaign record

Later, Wood serves as a scholar assigned to document the railway campaign and its aftermath. When an assassin attempts to erase or steal the combat record, Wood detects the threat too late but successfully fends off the attacker 812.
