Snape drew his wand the moment he entered the Headmaster's Office, and his face darkened visibly.
"Professor, please calm down..." Matthew grabbed the hand holding his wand.
Snape was furious. He had actually seen two people he utterly despised in the Headmaster's Office.
If Matthew had not held him back, he would have nearly slapped each of them in the face with an Avada Kedavra.
"What is going on?" Snape said coldly. He suddenly remembered that the annoying little man was supposed to be dead.
"Severus..." Dumbledore slowly explained what they had just learned.
"That is what happened... Severus, I agree with Matthew. Voldemort has been making frequent moves lately, and something has happened on the Goblin side as well. Now that we have a chance to get close to him, we must seize it..."
Dumbledore was also worried about something else. He feared that if they delayed any longer, Voldemort would become entangled with the Goblins. That would be a disaster for the Wizarding World, perhaps even for the entire world.
Goblins did not exist only in this country. Gringotts was spread across the world, and so were Goblins.
According to several Azkaban prisoners they had captured, those Goblins actually possessed wands. It was a terrifying thought. Four hundred years ago, Goblins had been forbidden from carrying wands.
Snape's expression kept changing as his eyes remained fixed on Peter Pettigrew.
Peter Pettigrew now wore a vacant expression. Snape had forced an unidentified liquid down his throat, and he answered whatever anyone asked him.
In the end, Snape nodded coldly and viciously tore out every last strand of Peter Pettigrew's already sparse hair.
"Harry—Harry—"
In his daze, Harry heard an unfamiliar voice calling to him. When he opened his eyes, he saw a haggard, weathered face.
