Background

Ouyang Shuo is a leading figure of the Vermilion Bird Martial Hall and a Federation councilor. His status, power, and reputation make his name a major deterrent among martial families and Federation elites; he is publicly known as the Mad Blade Martial Venerable. 229 363

His master was a Martial Venerable who cared for him deeply, but was killed by a Martial Saint of the Different Race. Before dying, Ouyang Shuo's master entrusted him with finding their missing grandmaster, Bao Guoshan. Ouyang Shuo spent years following this promise, searching secret realms in Northern Mang after locating Bao Guoshan's broken weapon. 350 454

The search ultimately led him to Bao Guoshan's remains in a concealed cave beneath Northern Mang. Ouyang Shuo determined that his grandmaster had died in meditation after sustaining grave lightning injuries, then paid respects and recovered his ring and notebook. 522

Appearance

Ouyang Shuo is a middle-aged man with a dignified, scholarly bearing and an aura compared to the blazing sun. His pupils appear to hold dancing flames, reflecting the fire-aligned cultivation he practices. 297 350

  • Frequently wears ancient-style robes or Tang suits in scarlet, blue, green, gray, or vermilion tones. 297 318 343 425 456
  • One scarlet robe is embroidered with golden flame patterns around its cuffs and hem. 297
  • His presence commands immediate respect from martial hall executives and high-ranking cultivators. 297 343

Personality

Ouyang Shuo is discerning and patient in recognizing talent. He observed Chen Xia's progress before formally accepting him, initially planned to intervene if Chen failed to reach the Soaring stage, and later bypassed further review after Chen won the national Flying Group championship. 228 319

He is exceptionally generous toward disciples, providing rare resources, personal instruction, cultivation access, and political support. His mentorship is nevertheless governed by clear principles: disciples may invoke his name for protection, but may not use it to bully others or commit reckless wrongs. 332 343 350 449

His loyalty to his lineage is equally pronounced. He continued searching for Bao Guoshan despite years without results because of the promise made to his late master. 454
