| Naturally faint presence | 23 | Her presence is so weak that most classmates barely register her introduction or cannot retain her face. |

Background
Megumi grew up burdened by an abnormally weak presence. Her parents and older sister frequently forgot about her, even leaving her behind during grocery trips. Wanting to be noticed, she learned to read people through their words, behavior, and reactions, developing perception that others mistake for mind-reading 25 27.
She transferred into Class D at Advanced Nurturing High School. While the class largely overlooked her, Akasaka Ryunosuke immediately recognized the value of her low presence and sought to recruit her for covert work 23. Megumi understood his intentions from their first meeting, but agreed to help after he sincerely acknowledged her unique qualities and asked to become her friend 27.
Megumi’s attachment to Akasaka grew into a relationship marked by affection, jealousy, and possessiveness. Feeling insecure amid his other romantic relationships, she drugged him and staged compromising evidence to force a decision; Akasaka then accepted responsibility and tacitly entered a relationship with her 144 145. In a later side story, she is depicted as Akasaka’s wife and the mother of their daughter, Kato Shizuka 146.
Appearance
Megumi is a slender girl usually seen with a short bob haircut, a calm expression, and an understated manner that reinforces her low presence. Her usual “Saintess Kei” outfit consists of a white beret, red coat, red shoes, and a brown shoulder bag 23 643.
- Her hair is waist-length in the later family side story 146.
- Her smile can briefly shatter the effect of her low presence, leaving a powerful impression on everyone present 644.
- Her older sister, Kato Hiromi, resembles her closely but has waist-length hair and a livelier demeanor 644.
Personality
Megumi is composed, observant, and usually expressionless. She speaks plainly, does not waste words, and remains calm in situations that frighten others 89 304. Her perceptiveness lets her identify hidden motives and romantic tension quickly, though she insists that she cannot literally read minds 26 27.
Beneath her restrained exterior, Megumi is deeply insecure about being forgotten. Akasaka’s willingness to notice her becomes the foundation of her devotion, but also fuels intense jealousy toward perceived rivals 145. She can be teasing and playful with him, yet becomes ruthless when he is endangered or when someone threatens people she considers important 27 304 802.
Abilities & Skills
Presence Suppression and Invisibility
Megumi’s defining trait is her ability to reduce her presence until others subconsciously overlook, forget, or cannot perceive her.
- Can pass guarded entrances, camps, and school blind spots without being noticed 89 456.
- Her ordinary suppression makes observers perceive her as an indistinct “mosaic” or fail to remember her name 23 304 456.
- Her advanced state defeats even Ayanokoji’s preparations to remember and track her 452 504.
- Her second Resurrección leaves no visible trace even in rain 803.
- Her stealth can be countered by environmental clues, such as rainwater moving around her in a less complete state 803.
- Prolonged complete imperceptibility leaves her unable to immediately return to normal 452.
Observation and Thought Inference
Megumi reads body language, speech, and behavior with extraordinary accuracy.
- Can infer another person’s thoughts closely enough to alarm Ayanokoji and Akasaka 26.
- Identified Akasaka’s intention to use her to earn points from their first encounter 27.
- Cannot teach this ability, as it developed naturally from her life experiences and observation 27 197.
- She explicitly denies possessing true mind-reading or supernatural telepathy 26.
Covert Combat
Megumi combines stealth with surprise attacks, focusing on incapacitation or rapid elimination rather than direct confrontations.
- Defeated more than a dozen opponents without injury using stun guns 45.
- Incapacitated Amasawa Ichika and Yagami Takuya with simultaneous electric shocks after approaching them unnoticed 304.
- Used twenty-two anesthetic needles to bring down Yujiro Hanma 434.
- Infiltrated the White House, disabled surveillance, incapacitated guards, and reached Ayanokoji’s cell 456.
- Can use daggers when electrical weapons are ineffective 803.
- Her physical ability is otherwise stated to be ordinary; extended direct combat exhausts her 806.
Manipulation and Planning
Megumi is capable of carefully exploiting others’ assumptions and emotions to secure what she wants.
- Manipulated Morishita Ai into verbally approving her relationship with Akasaka, allowing Megumi to obtain Akasaka’s dorm key 140.
- Drugged Akasaka, staged compromising photographs, and used the situation to force acknowledgment of their relationship 144 145.
- Negotiated with Morishita before leaving school to search for Akasaka 369.
- Despite her covert strengths, she admits no talent for political negotiation or influencing voters 508.
Equipment
- Stun guns — Her preferred weapon for silent incapacitation; their charge can be increased to levels stated to incapacitate elephants 304 803.
- Daggers / short blade — Used when stun guns fail or against highly resistant opponents 452 803.
- Anesthetic needles — Used in large numbers to incapacitate Yujiro Hanma 434.
- Key ring — Taken from White House guards while searching for Ayanokoji’s cell key 456.
Relationships
- Akasaka Ryunosuke — Friend, romantic partner, and later husband. He is the first person who consistently notices her, and Megumi becomes fiercely devoted to him 25 27 145 644.
- Kato Shizuka — Her daughter with Akasaka. Shizuka inherits an even stronger version of Megumi’s invisibility trait 146.
- Morishita Ai — Initially Megumi’s principal romantic rival; later an ally and co-partner in Akasaka’s relationship circle. Morishita carves Megumi’s information into her arm to avoid forgetting her 89 145 243.
- Horikita Suzune — Megumi unilaterally considers her a close female friend. Horikita later risks her life to save Megumi from a collapsing building 50 804.
- Ayanokoji Kiyotaka — Initially fascinated and threatened by Megumi’s thought inference and stealth. He repeatedly attempts to develop countermeasures against her 26 446 452.
- Kato Hiromi — Her older sister. Hiromi and the rest of Megumi’s family frequently fail to notice Megumi’s absence due to her weak presence 25 644.
- Shiina Hiyori — A romantic rival whom Megumi recognizes as close to Akasaka; the two also cooperate during the island exam 89.
