History

Decline and External Pressure

Uzushiogakure is renowned for the Uzumaki Clan's sealing arts, including techniques capable of sealing tailed beasts. This inheritance made the village a target for other shinobi villages, particularly Kumogakure, whose forces repeatedly attacked nearby areas and sought to steal its secrets. 39

The village's internal condition worsened under Clan Head Uzumaki Suigen. Elder Chihana described the village as impoverished, with its younger generation struggling even to afford food, and viewed Suigen's removal as necessary for the village's survival. 57

Uchiha Ao's Mission

Uchiha Ao arrived as a Konoha jonin assigned to assist Uzushiogakure against outside harassment. His initial dealings with Suigen deteriorated when the Clan Head demanded that Ao scout a Cloud outpost with explosive tags while claiming the credit for himself; Suigen then attempted to seize Ao's Secret Medicine and detain him. 54 55

Uzumaki Longya warned that alienating Konoha would leave Uzushiogakure without its only ally. The Clan Elders subsequently moved against Suigen, and he was restrained and imprisoned after objecting to their agreement with Ao. 56 64

Ao cleared two Kumogakure outposts, earning the Elders' confidence. They offered him a marriage alliance with Uzumaki Misaki and Hami, access to the clan's millennium of Ninja Beast records and summoning contracts, and a long-term arrangement under which he would return for one week each year to remove threats around the village. 64

Defense of Uzushiogakure

While Ao was in the Flower-Fruit Mountain Realm, several perimeter outposts and the first reconnaissance squad sent to investigate them abruptly ceased contact. Kumogakure and Iwagakure then launched a joint assault that weakened Uzushiogakure's barrier. 74 75

Ao returned through the village's secret chamber, forcibly breached its sealed exit, and found the Four Violet Flames Formation enclosing Uzushiogakure. He then deployed Son Goku, his contracted Ninja Beast, to defend the village. 74 76

Son Goku halted the coalition's advance, transformed into a golden eagle, and devastated the invading forces. Iwagakure withdrew after Ōnoki sought terms, while Ao ordered that Kumogakure's forces receive no mercy due to their long campaign against the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques. 76 77

After the battle, Uzushiogakure publicly presented Son Goku as a guardian beast contracted through the combined efforts of the village, concealing Ao's personal control over it and strengthening the village's deterrent value. 76 83

Reconstruction and Influence

Ao repaired the village barrier and arranged contracts with two additional Ninja Beasts for Misaki and Hami. He stated that their combined strength, alongside the two women's ninjutsu, could rival an ordinary Kage-level combatant. 80

The Clan Elders jointly recommended Misaki as the new Uzukage, though Ao regarded the position as nominal while older power holders retained control over Uzushiogakure's finances and military resources. Misaki and Hami remained in the village as Ao's representatives. 80

Uzushiogakure later agreed to send two or three talented young clansmen to study at Konoha's Ninja Academy after the war. Those students were intended to remain in Konoha after graduation and establish a new Uzumaki-derived ninja clan there. 87

Uzushiogakure occupies a large island surrounded by violent whirlpools that function as a natural barrier. Cylindrical buildings are built into the mountainside, while bridges, roads, stone pillars, and buildings are covered in dense sealing formulas that glow faintly in the evening light. 53
