History

Konoha enters a period of escalating tension when Kumogakure’s aggression raises the prospect of war. The village also faces internal suspicion surrounding Uchiha Ao after an assassination connected to the Senju Clan, with Tobirama giving Ao one month to prove himself while ordering Danzo to kill him afterward. 1

The village’s internal clan divisions remain pronounced. The Uchiha Clan seeks to expand its Police Force and political standing, while other major clans resist its influence. Uchiha civilians encounter open social isolation within Konoha, deepening the clan’s resentment toward the village establishment. 2 3

As border hostilities intensify, Konoha deploys reconnaissance teams and organizes patrols under Hiruzen Sarutobi. Tobirama monitors Uchiha Ao closely, placing a Flying Thunder God Mark on him while assessing whether his growing power can be used for the village. 13 16

When Uzushiogakure requests aid against foreign pressure, Tobirama refuses a broad Konoha deployment because it could leave the village exposed to Kumogakure. Instead, he sends Uchiha Ao—officially only a Chunin—to provide limited support while preserving plausible deniability. 44

Ao’s work in Uzushiogakure later produces a proposal for talented Uzumaki youths to study, settle, and establish a new clan in Konoha. Tobirama recognizes this as a long-term gain for Konoha’s bloodline strength and sealing-arts foundation. 87

Conflict with Kumogakure

Konoha’s conflict with Kumogakure escalates into open warfare at the Land of Fire border. Kinkaku and Ginkaku, empowered by Nine-Tails Chakra and Sage Tools, inflict heavy losses on Konoha’s forces and push Hiruzen Sarutobi and Kagami Uchiha to their limits. 105

Uchiha Ao arrives at Thunderfall Gorge with a squad drawn from multiple Konoha clans and assumes command of the battle. His intervention relieves the frontline defenders and establishes him as a central figure in Konoha’s war effort. 105

Konoha later suffers a devastating raid when “A” storms its main camp, injuring Hiruzen, Utatane Koharu, Kagami Uchiha, and Mitokado Homura while breaking through a barrier formation. 114 115

Despite these setbacks, Hiruzen leads a decisive operation that separates Kinkaku and Ginkaku with the Four Violet Flames Formation, allowing Konoha’s forces to overwhelm the brothers independently. 118

Aftermath

The war leaves Konoha with significant casualties, prompting Tobirama to postpone the memorial service until Hiruzen and Ao return from the front. 120

Tobirama rejects reconciliation with Kumogakure, intending to continue the war until Kumogakure surrenders or is defeated. 120

In recognition of Ao’s role in destroying Kumogakure’s main force, Tobirama orders that he be posthumously named Konoha Hero, recorded in the Book of Sealing, and granted the right to establish an independent ninja clan. 120
