Background

Shen Qiuyue once fainted from hunger outside Luming Fort and was taken in by Qin Meng's parents. She became Qin Meng's child bride, but endured mistreatment from him during his years as a drunken gambler. 1

When Qin Meng was left near death after collapsing drunk in a rain-filled ditch, Qiuyue sold herself for fifty taels of silver to obtain life-saving medicine. The agreement gave her seven days to repay the money; failure would force her into Qin Lai's household as a slave and maid. She also kept Qin Meng warm through the night with her own body. 1

After Qin Meng changes, Qiuyue gradually begins to trust him again.
