Background

Gu Yu was originally a gamer who transmigrated into the body of a newly born dragon in the Far North. Aware that dragons were scarce and barred from godhood, he set his sights on surviving the era ruled by Tang San, reaching one hundred thousand years of cultivation, and ultimately becoming the Dragon God. His early plans included finding the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm as a source of cultivation energy and locating the Dragon Slaying Blade to improve his combat strength. 2

He encountered the Snow Empress while she was preparing to face her 700,000-Year Heavenly Tribulation. By offering knowledge and assistance, he gained her protection; she later treated him as family, even offering to acknowledge him as her son. 6 11 Gu Yu subsequently used Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow and an Ice Silkworm to create an artificial “power bank,” absorbing its power for cultivation while Xiao Bai and A Tai benefited from the energy it radiated. 17

Di Tian sought him out because of his True Dragon status and potential. Gu Yu accepted Di Tian as his master, judging that the alliance would give him greater power, access to the Dragon Clan, and a means to protect the Auspicious Beast from Tang San’s plans. 27

Later revelations showed that the Dragon Slaying Blade was forged from the Dragon God’s horn as an artifact for judging and punishing dragons. After the blade fell into the Far North, a new consciousness emerged from it and became Gu Yu. 26 93

Appearance

Gu Yu initially appears as a small golden dragon. After transforming, he takes the form of a youthful Dragon-Man and must borrow clothing because he cannot initially manifest it himself. 83

His pursuit of power can be ruthless. He forcefully matures and exploits an Ice Silkworm for cultivation, treating it as a renewable source of energy rather than an equal. 17 25 At the same time, he is capable of protectiveness: he keeps the Auspicious Beast away from Huo Yuhao’s intended fate, sends Wang Xia’er to protect Huo Yuhao, and rescues Ye Guyi from Evil Soul Masters. 43 89 234
