Background / History

Jiraiya recognized Minato's talent for Space-Time Ninjutsu and petitioned Hiruzen Sarutobi for access to the forbidden Flying Thunder God Technique. After an Anbu background investigation, Hiruzen approved the request; Minato subsequently mastered the technique and became one of Konoha's most dependable mission shinobi. He also spent three years developing the seal-less Rasengan, inspired by the Tailed Beast Bomb. 184

During the Third Shinobi World War, Minato completed his development of the Flying Thunder God Technique and volunteered for the Land of Earth front. He chose Iwagakure because its shinobi were, in his assessment, less reflexive than Kumogakure's taijutsu and sword specialists. 278

His operations behind enemy lines established the Yellow Flash's reputation.
