Frieza Force Service

Raditz served in the Frieza Force’s First Legion as part of Saiyan Squad B119 under Captain Vegeta. Though he survived the destruction of Planet Vegeta, he understood that his 1,500 combat power made him expendable beside Vegeta and Nappa. He kept a low profile around them because weakness meant having no voice in Saiyan society 5 8.

He came to Earth intending to take his younger brother, Kakarot, and recruit him for planetary invasions. After Goku and Piccolo nearly killed him, Raditz immediately sought safety beside the much stronger Lin Chuan, whom he assumed was a superior Frieza Force soldier 5.

Break with Vegeta

Raditz initially tried to recruit Lin Chuan to help invade a valuable planet, offering an equal share of the rewards. Lin Chuan’s revelation that he was an independent Saiyan—and his warning that Vegeta would discard Raditz for failing on Earth—forced Raditz to confront his lack of status in the squad 6 8.

Stimulated by Lin Chuan and Goku’s growth, Raditz abandoned Vegeta and Nappa’s orders and remained on Earth. His objective became simple: gain enough strength that neither Nappa nor Vegeta could treat him as disposable again 10.

Training with King Kai

Raditz volunteered to accompany Goku to the Otherworld for King Kai’s training, despite Kami’s reluctance to trust a former invader. He trained with his brother, received King Kai’s disciple uniform, and returned to Earth in time for Vegeta and Nappa’s invasion 26 27 82.

He challenged Vegeta directly, declaring that “the times have changed.” Although his Blood Qi Burst pushed him beyond 15,000 combat power, Vegeta defeated him at 18,000; Goku intervened before Vegeta could finish him 85.

Namek and Later Growth

On Planet Namek, Raditz’s power rose above one million after King Kai’s training and Grand Elder Guru’s Potential Unleashed. With Blood Qi Burst, he reached two million combat power and pressured Frieza even after Frieza’s first transformation 94.

He later attained Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Grade 2, Super Saiyan 2, and Super Saiyan 3 through continued training and rivalry with Goku and Vegeta 107 114 125 126. He and Goku eventually achieved Super Saiyan God after a year and a half training under King Kai, then continued developing divine power under Whis 163 198.

Tournament of Power

During the inter-universal tournament, Raditz defeated Turles by combining Super Saiyan Blue 3: Divine Ultimate with Blood Qi Burst. He later eliminated Janemba Buu using Hundred Times Blood Qi Burst, but the technique left him severely depleted 262 272.

Super 17 exploited Raditz’s aggressive fighting style and absorbed the energy from his attacks. Raditz was apparently killed by Electric Hell Blast, but survived, awakened his fully released potential, and returned vastly stronger 274 275.

Raditz is a long-haired Saiyan whose appearance retains several traditional Saiyan traits.

Personality

Raditz began as an arrogant, opportunistic survivor who bullied weaker opponents while remaining extremely cautious around anyone stronger than himself. His deference to Lin Chuan came from recognizing both Lin Chuan’s superior strength and Raditz’s own low standing in the Frieza Force 5 8.

His decision to stay on Earth changed his priorities. He became intensely driven to train, reject Vegeta’s authority, and prove that he was not disposable. He remains proud and confrontational, but defeats gradually teach him to treat setbacks as motivation rather than humiliation 10 112.

Raditz is still ruthless toward enemies. He kills Babidi rather than tolerate his interference, advocates eliminating Majin Buu as a future threat, and attacks with overwhelming force when he decides an opponent must be defeated 167 177. Despite his harsh manner, he cares deeply about Saiyan kin and his family, including his son Treep 140 163.
