Background / History

Hiroshi is Shin Nohara's father and Miya's husband. His missions often keep him away from home for extended periods; upon returning from one such mission, he finds Shin training in blade techniques under Hatake Sakumo and proudly recognizes his son's growth. 20

He personally visits Might Duy and Hatake Sakumo with Shin to thank them for mentoring the boy. He is particularly moved when Duy explains that Shin's talent is better suited to blade techniques than Duy's own limit-breaking regimen. 21

When rumors spread accusing Sakumo of abandoning a mission, Hiroshi shields Shin from the political details while firmly telling him that Sakumo is a good person. 38

Hiroshi later receives simultaneous offers from Root and the Third Hokage. Although Root offers greater pay, resources, and prestige, he chooses the Hokage Building position because its work keeps him near Miya and Shin. 43 He is subsequently shown returning from work at the Hokage Building. 65

As Shin's abilities rapidly surpass his own, Hiroshi struggles with his feelings of inadequacy. He cannot fully understand the advanced Earth Release scrolls sent to Shin, admits he was maintaining a capable-father image, and accepts Shin's promise to teach him later. 105

Hiroshi is depicted as a casually dressed adult with a somewhat unkempt, lived-in appearance after returning from missions. 20

Personality

When he receives offers from Root and the Hokage Building, he makes a dramatic entrance home and repeatedly tries to prompt Miya and Shin into asking about his news. 43 He also takes great pride in being praised by the Third Hokage and in obtaining tickets for the Chūnin Exams. 79 80

Despite this ego, Hiroshi consistently places his family ahead of status or income. He rejects Root's dangerous, prestigious offer so that he can return home regularly, describing himself as a responsible father even if he is not the strongest ninja. 43 When Shin returns after being away with the Dog Clan, Hiroshi immediately takes leave from work, checks him for injuries, and refuses to prioritize anything over his son's safety. 123

He is financially anxious and frequently thinks about the family's mortgage. Upon learning that Shin will receive special instruction, Hiroshi excitedly imagines using his future mission income to shorten their mortgage, though Miya reminds him that Shin is still only five years old. 88
