Tang Zhean was an exceptional child selected for Z Country's Hope Plan, a state program that identified and educated talented students before sending its strongest candidates abroad. While studying in the United States, he solved two world-famous mathematical problems at age seventeen and was acclaimed as a historic genius with an IQ of 260. The recognition left him convinced that he could transform Z Country's technological future. 29

His confidence collapsed after a car accident led to his death and subsequent confinement by a United States secret research team. Held under house arrest for ten years, Tang believed he would never be permitted to return to public life or regain his freedom. 29
