The Kind Gentleman
On Thursday, Lynch was watching Leonard play cards in the lounge when he heard a knock on the door, and shortly after, Rozanne ran in.
"You guys stop playing cards, we have a client coming in."
Entrustment?
Lynch remembered that there was also a case in the original book at this point, which was about the death of Congressman Maynard. His wife and sister did not accept the investigation results given by the Tingen police, so they came here to make a request.
However, Lynch remembered that Congressman Maynard was still alive, so who had commissioned this?
Curious, he followed Leonard and the others outside to take a look. The woman was somewhat elderly, with gray hair and glasses, giving her a scholarly air.
"I want to ask you to help me investigate the real cause of my son Andre's death. I don't believe he really just died of fright. He was so daring!"
He could excitedly jump from upstairs to downstairs and even try his hand at hang gliding. I don't accept the police's findings here. I want you to find out the real cause of his death. I'm willing to pay five hundred pounds for it; that's all the cash I have on hand right now!
Andre, that name sounds familiar.
Lynch was trying to recall where he had heard the name before when Rozanne whispered in his ear, "The name of that Backlund envoy."
Yes, it's that special envoy.
Lynch didn't bother to remember the other person's name; he always referred to him as "Special Envoy."
"The official conclusion regarding his true cause of death is that he was frightened by a pregnant woman named Anseline. I was also a little scared by that woman's face. She was pregnant and using drugs, which ravaged her entire face. If you saw her at night, you might really think she was a demon, and it's possible that you would be frightened."
Leonard explained softly.
However, the woman did not agree.
"Being frightened is one thing, but being scared to death is another. You can focus on that Ms. Anseline; I suspect she's involved. My son has a bright future; maybe his political enemies got that woman to do something!"
The woman said coldly.
Leonard hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
"Alright! Investigating isn't out of the question, but let us state upfront that we can't be sure that Anseline really has a problem; perhaps it's all just your own speculation."
After he finished speaking, he saw the old woman nod.
"If that's really me, then I'll accept my fate!"
Lynch stood to the side, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back, wondering why Ince Zangwill had arranged this plot.
If he wanted Dunn to be corrupted, he should have chosen something else. The emergence of Anseline, this hidden danger, is not as simple as just corruption.
Isn't Ince Zangwill afraid that they'll expose Anseline's identity outside, and then he won't get Saint Selena's Ashes?
But thinking about it, this matter actually has little to do with him. Ince Zangwill doesn't get his ashes, it's because he was foolish and useless.
He can't possibly worry about Ince Zangwill's plans.
Lynch watched Leonard sign the agreement with the woman, then saw her leave before preparing to return to his office to rest.
Leonard and that woman signed an agreement. It was definitely Leonard who investigated; it had little to do with him, and he had no intention of going.
Sure enough, when he returned to the lounge, he saw Leonard laughing and joking as he pulled Klein away. As someone who was highly suspicious of Klein, this was perfectly normal.
"Wait a moment!"
Leonard and Klein had just stepped out the door when Dunn came out.
"Don't rush off yet. A case has come up: Lanevus's body was found in the downtown area. Leonard, you and Klein..."
Before he could finish speaking, Lynch interrupted him.
"Captain, Klein isn't Corpse Collector. I feel like this arrangement isn't quite right."
Dunn rubbed his temples; he clearly thought Lynch was right.
"Then Royale and Frye go to the downtown area. Klein, you and Leonard continue with the previous request. My memory is terrible."
He shook his head and prepared to return to his office.
But then he suddenly turned to look at Lynch and said, "If you're going to imitate someone, you can't imitate this state of mind. This isn't common!"
Lynch sighed speechlessly; the Mimic's Pathway had truly made him lose face.
"I see."
Lynch muttered, too lazy to argue with Dunn that he wasn't one of those idiots who imitated others just because they admired them.
He has important things to arrange right now.
Mr. Azik had told him that when things were about to happen, he would throw Lanevus's body into the street, and then another thing would break out. At that time, he would need to take Old Neil and Kenley away and move them out of the battlefield.
He finally understood why Ince Zangwill had sent Andre's mother here to make a request: only in this way could Leonard and Klein leave, and with his arrangements, the Tingen Nighthawks might only have Dunn left.
The elderly guards Chanis Gate don't count; they can't leave Chanis Gate, and besides, they're too old to be of any help.
Therefore, if the plan succeeds, Ince Zangwill will have an easier time obtaining Saint Selena's Ashes than in the original story.
Lynch packed his belongings and waited for Dunn to come and tell him to leave. If he was right, Anseline was on her way to the security company, and Leonard and Klein would be disappointed.
"Lynch, another thing's come up. You stay with the team, I'm going to the Manor District. The people there have suddenly started worshipping the Sun. You haven't dealt with this before, Old Neil and I will go!"
Dunn had already put on his coat, and before Lynch could speak, he gave a smile.
"Don't tell me you're going. Places where people suddenly change their faith are dangerous. As the captain, how can I let you take such a risk? You and Kenley should be fine staying with the team. Old Neil and I will go."
Lynch opened his mouth, remembering Mr. Azik's request: stay away from Tingen, stay away from danger...
"Dunn, you take Kenley with you. The three of you can apply for the Sealed Artifact together. I think it's very dangerous for you to go."
He smiled nonchalantly.
Watching Dunn go underground to apply for the Sealed Artifact, Lynch immediately took out the pen Mr. Azik had given him and quickly wrote on the paper, "Mr. Azik, save me! I've been left behind by the Nighthawks!"
He didn't care that this was the Goddess's territory; he was terrified that Anseline would take his life if he delayed any longer.
He breathed a sigh of relief as the paper disappeared in a flash.
Watching Dunn and Old Neil leave, he spotted Anseline outside the Nighthawks squad's location.
Anseline looked even thinner; her drug use had ruined her face and her body.
"I've finally found you, kind sir."
