Background

Oscar was an orphan raised by a kind old woman. After her death two years before Flender found him, he survived alone from meal to meal; at age seven, he had never even undergone a martial soul awakening. His entire wealth amounted to three copper spirit coins. 53

Flender located Oscar through his ability to sense people with innate full spirit power. Although initially wary of a stranger, Oscar accepted Flender as his teacher after witnessing his seven spirit rings and promised himself that he would become a Spirit Master. 53

Oscar's martial soul awakened as the Food God, an extraordinarily rare food-system martial soul. Flender considers him a likely candidate to become the first food-system Title Douluo, since no food-system Spirit Master had previously reached that rank. 53 54

To develop Oscar's understanding of food and strengthen his undernourished body, Flender took him through major towns to eat fine cuisine and used spirit power to nourish him at night. 54
