Background / History
Shendu was one of the Eight Demons who ruled the world in ancient times. As the Fire Demon associated with the Li trigram, he represents a portion of Dark Chi. The Eight Immortals ultimately sealed the demons in the Demon Netherworld using chi spells and corresponding artifacts. 72
During a loophole in the balance of Yin and Yang, Shendu borrowed power from his siblings to escape the Demon Netherworld. Rather than immediately freeing them, he established his own rule in the human world, an act the other demons regarded as betrayal. Lo Pei later defeated him by extracting his power and turning him into a statue. 72 81
After Jade destroyed Shendu's statue, he endured as an immortal demon soul rather than dying permanently. Unable to act without a body, he possessed Valmont, whose organization had acquired the Twelve Talismans and the Pan'ku Box. 72
Appearance
Shendu's current presence is primarily expressed through Valmont's possessed body. When he takes control, Valmont's eyes emit a crimson light. 72
- He is described by Jade as a “green lizard,” reflecting his draconic demon form. 75
- In his bodiless state, he can still project malice, speak through Valmont, breathe fire, and use limited magic. 73 74
Personality
Shendu is proud, domineering, and deeply contemptuous of weakness. He considers the Dark Hand inept after they lose both the Talismans and the Pan'ku Box, and he forces them into continued service rather than treating them as equals. 73 74
He is also calculating and opportunistic. He agrees to Daolon Wong's request for talisman-like power while privately intending to betray the sorcerer, treating cooperation as a temporary means to regain his own freedom and influence. 73
Despite his selfish history, Shendu recognizes overwhelming authority when confronted by it. After Tso Lan's resurrection, he quickly pledges loyalty to his elder brother, aware that his past betrayal of the other demons has left him in a vulnerable position. 81
Abilities & Skills
Demon Immortality and Soul Possession
As a demon, Shendu cannot be permanently killed through ordinary defeat; he can be sealed, destroyed physically, or reduced to a soul, but continues to exist. 72
- Possesses living hosts when lacking a body, currently controlling Valmont. 72
- A spell placed on his soul by the other demons restricts his possession to a single person. 74
- Seeks a new physical body through Daolon Wong's corpse-possession resurrection magic. 74
Fire Magic
Shendu is the Fire Demon and retains fire-based power even while inhabiting a human vessel. 72 74
- Breathes flames through Valmont's body. 74
- The Dragon and Pig Talismans' combustion and laser powers are described as manifestations of Shendu's fire magic. 74
- His weakened host body limits his combat effectiveness and makes using fire unpleasant for him. 74
Demon Sorcery
Shendu was once a demon sorcerer with extensive magical knowledge, though time in the Demon Netherworld eroded portions of his memories and abilities. 74
- Consults magical manuscripts to recover spells and lost knowledge. 74 80

- Understands the magical significance of relics, demon seals, and resurrection methods. 72 74
