"Oh, so it's brother Hodan, come with me." The burly man with short golden hair led the way. "My name is Peg."
"Haha, brother Peg, once my term ends, I'll treat you to a drink in Silvermoon City," Hodan replied courteously.
Upon hearing Hodan's invitation to drink, the golden-haired man, Peg, became even more enthusiastic. He responded, "Alright, I should be due for a vacation by then. It's a deal."
Hodan and Peg chatted as they walked and soon reached the edge of the teleportation array. The two had formed a preliminary acquaintance; while they couldn't be called friends yet, they felt good about each other, and if they spent more time together, they would likely become friends soon.
Standing by the edge of the Plane Teleportation Array, Peg asked Hodan, "Which Material Plane are you heading to for your appointment this time?"
"The Yulan Continent plane," Hodan replied.
As Peg began to activate the teleportation array, he reminded Hodan not to forget about the drinks. It seemed Peg was quite the lover of alcohol.
After Hodan promised repeatedly that he would not forget, he stepped onto the Plane Teleportation Array. A moment later, a hazy light flickered, and Hodan's figure twisted and vanished into the array, transported to the Yulan Continent to begin his path as a Plane Overseer. This also marked the beginning of the legendary journey that would make Hodan famous across the myriad worlds.
Yulan Continent
Cold winds howled, sweeping across the heavens and earth, with countless ice shards flying wildly. In this world of ice, mountain after mountain of ice rose into the sky. Sculpted by the cold winds over countless years, the ice mountains were polished until they were smooth and bright; one could even see their own reflection on the mountain walls.
On the highest ice mountain, eleven mysterious hexagram-shaped magic arrays were spread across the surface.
Suddenly, one of the eleven magic arrays lit up with a brilliant glow. Beams of light shot into the sky, dazzling and dreamlike.
As the figure solidified, the light of the magic array dissipated. Hodan appeared within the teleportation array.
Because the previous Plane Overseer had died during the Descent of the Gods, the Yulan Continent had been without an overseer for a long time. Moreover, the Yulan Continent was the territory of Beirut, and with his stance unclear, the various Chief Sovereigns had not sent another overseer. If Beirut did not agree, even a Paragon High-God would be walking to their death, and no god was foolish enough to come here just to die.
It was only after Beirut pledged allegiance to the Destruction Sovereign and made his stance known that the Chief Sovereigns decided to send a Plane Overseer. Because the Eight Great Clans held a grudge against the Four Divine Beasts Clan, and because high-concentration bloodlines had appeared in the Yulan Continent, the Renars Clan had maneuvered to send Hodan to the Yulan Continent as an overseer. He was tasked with monitoring the descendants of the Four Divine Beasts Clan and, while they were still growing, tricking them into going to Hell to die, thereby weakening the foundation of the Four Divine Beasts Clan.
The moment Hodan arrived in the Yulan Continent, Beirut, as a Chief Sovereign, knew of it. After all, the light and fluctuations caused by the Plane Teleportation Array were not concealed. Furthermore, as a Chief Sovereign, Beirut could cover not just a small pond like the Yulan Continent, but even the supreme plane of Hell with a single thought.
"Come to the Dark Forest to see me," Beirut transmitted via divine sense. His voice was filled with unquestionable majesty, and along with it, a map to the Dark Forest appeared in Hodan's mind.
"Yes, I am coming immediately." Hodan knew of Beirut's status as a Chief Sovereign and dared not resist. Although he did not want to meet the mastermind behind the Yulan Continent, he had no choice but to brace himself and fly toward the Dark Forest. After all, this was Beirut's territory; there was no faster way to die than to defy him.
Hodan flew at high speed toward the depths of the Dark Forest, reaching its core in a short while. After flying a bit further, a pitch-black metal castle appeared in his sight. The castle covered an area of several miles and was made entirely of a peculiar black metal.
Hodan knew this was a product of the divine realms—a Metal Lifeform. The most basic Metal Lifeforms were worth millions, while high-end, powerful ones cost tens of millions... and the giant ones could cost over a hundred million Inkstones. Hodan could afford a common Metal Lifeform.
However, he had previously felt it was unnecessary. Although a Metal Lifeform traveled faster than a god could fly, saving time, once one reached the Saint-level, all lifeforms possessed infinite lifespan, so he hadn't minded wasting some time flying. But looking at the Metal Lifeform before him, Hodan began to consider when he should buy one; after all, his time was tight, and he could not afford to waste it on travel.
Hodan flew before the Metal Lifeform and said respectfully, "Plane Overseer Hodan, requesting an audience with Lord Beirut."
He stated his identity first to ensure he wouldn't be killed on a whim by Beirut, while also keeping his posture very low. One must maintain a respectful attitude toward all power that transcends one's own; this was a quality everyone had to possess. Those who lacked strength but acted arrogantly had long since become the dust of history.
Hodan waited for a long time, but there was no response from within. He knew this was a show of dominance from Beirut. Not daring to show any emotion, he tightened his expression and stood respectfully, like a prisoner awaiting judgment.
After waiting for half a day, just as Hodan was about to lose his patience, a black shadow suddenly appeared in front of them and gradually solidified. The man wore a simple black robe, his long black hair was disheveled, and his beard reached his chest. He looked like an old man.
"Lord Beirut." Hodan knew that only Beirut could appear before him like this. The old man in front of him was clearly Beirut, so Hodan hurriedly bowed. The fact that Beirut was a Chief Sovereign was a top-secret among gods, and no one knew his true status. Besides, as a person from the Zhonghua Family of the new era, Hodan could not bring himself to kneel to Beirut.
He would not kneel to the heavens, nor bow to the earth; he would only kneel to his ancestors and parents. This was Hodan's conviction.
This was the first time Hodan had seen Beirut, and he didn't even dare to breathe.
Beirut had a pair of small eyes, yet they were very spirited, like brilliant stars. However, there was no smile on his face; it was icy cold. Hodan hurriedly lowered his head.
"I don't care about your situation, but you are not allowed to take action in the Yulan Continent, nor are you to disrupt the order of the Yulan Continent. Otherwise, hmph!" Beirut said with an indifferent expression, followed by a burst of pressure.
Although it was only a brief burst of pressure from Beirut, coming and going quickly, given Beirut's strength, even with intentional suppression, Hodan felt as if the sky were collapsing. A pressure like that of an ancient divine mountain bore down on him. Hodan knew Beirut was intentionally suppressing him and had been prepared, but he hadn't expected the pressure to be so immense. Was this the gap in strength? A god could not even withstand a casual burst of pressure from a Chief Sovereign; he truly wondered what realm a Chief Sovereign's power had reached.
Although Hodan was nearly forced to his knees, he had been prepared and adjusted his posture, ending up only collapsing into a sitting position under the weight of Beirut's pressure.
Hodan dared not show any dissatisfaction and replied respectfully, "Yes, Lord Beirut." Although Beirut hadn't specified what would happen "otherwise," Hodan knew that offending Beirut would not end well.
