| Eightfold Ancestral Symbol Source Qi | 37 | Mu Chen's stabilized Qi Mansion divides his Source Qi into eight types corresponding to the Eight Great Ancestral Symbols. Devouring Qi is initially the only usable strand and rivals Eighth-grade Origin Energy in quality. 37 |
| Space Qi unlocked | 46 | Refining the Space Ancestral Symbol grants Mu Chen use of Space Qi, likewise comparable to Eighth-grade Origin Energy. 46 |
| Third Eighth-grade strand | 148 | Mu Chen possesses Devouring Qi, Space Qi, and Life-and-Death Qi—three Source Qi strands comparable to Eighth-grade Origin Energy. 148 |
| Four-attribute manifestation | 276 | Upon opening the Eighth Heaven, Mu Chen manifests four separate Source Qi clouds: devouring, space, lightning, and life and death. 276 |
| Six Eighth-grade streams | 307 | Six strands of Ancestral Symbol Source Qi comparable to the eighth grade underpin Mu Chen's Origin Energy foundation of twenty billion. 307 |
| Ninth-grade Devouring Qi | 334 | Mu Chen's Devouring Qi contends directly with Tai Xuan's Ninth-grade Blood Sea Source Qi; neither can overcome the other. 334 |
Nature and Cultivation
Source Qi exists throughout the world and continuously nourishes cultivators. It can be gathered from the environment, purified through formations or special locations, and stored within the body for cultivation and battle. 6 114
A cultivator who opens a Qi Mansion enters the Qi Nourishing Realm. The Qi Mansion stores far greater amounts of Source Qi than the Meridian Opening Realm allows, improving endurance in combat. 37
- Source Qi is ordinarily attribute-less before a cultivator practices an appropriate art. 37
- A Qi Mansion's quality and a cultivator's Source Qi reserves affect the height they can reach while charging through the Heaven Pass. 64
- At the Primordial Realm, Source Qi can condense into Origin Energy Stars; Mu Chen's stars bear runes associated with his Ancestral Symbols because of their Source Qi attributes. 104
- The purity of Source Qi can be improved through Origin Pattern barriers, which filter impurities from Heavenly Source Qi. 114
Grades and Attributes
| Type / Grade | Known Properties | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Source Qi | Usually possesses one attribute after cultivation through an art. | Most cultivators can only wield a single attribute. 46 |
| Yin Yang Source Qi | Can be separated into Yin and Yang attributes or wielded together. | Su Youwei's Yin Yang Qi Mansion produces this Source Qi. 64 |
| Ancestral Symbol Source Qi | Divided into distinct strands tied to Ancestral Symbols; requires refinement of the corresponding symbol before use. | Mu Chen's Devouring, Space, Lightning, Flame, Primordial Wilderness, Darkness, Ice, and Life-and-Death Source Qi. 36 37 |
| Eighth-grade-quality Source Qi | Exceptionally high-quality Source Qi; Mu Chen's refined Ancestral Symbol strands reach this level. | Devouring Qi, Space Qi, and Life-and-Death Qi. 46 148 |
| Ninth-grade Source Qi | Possesses spirituality and is extraordinarily rare, even among Saints. | Tai Xuan's Blood Sea Source Qi and Mu Chen's Devouring Qi. 334 |
Ancestral Symbol Source Qi
Mu Chen's Qi Mansion initially forms as a Golden Qi Mansion, but the auras of eight Ancestral Symbols destabilize it. The Ancestral Stone intervenes, suppressing the conflicting auras, repairing the cracks, and permanently remaining in the Qi Mansion to maintain balance. 36 37
The resulting multicolored Qi Mansion contains eight Source Qi types:
- Devouring Qi
- Space Qi
- Lightning Qi
- Flame Qi
- Primordial Wilderness Qi
- Darkness Qi
- Ice Qi
- Life-and-Death Qi 36 37
Initially, Mu Chen cannot use a strand until he refines its associated Ancestral Symbol. The Devouring Ancestral Symbol is refined first, making Devouring Qi his earliest usable and strongest Source Qi. 37
Devouring Qi
Devouring Qi manifests as profound black energy and grants powerful absorption, refinement, and suppression abilities.
- It can swallow and dissolve an incoming stream of hostile Source Qi without harming Mu Chen. 72
- It refines absorbed energy into purer, usable Source Qi. 36
- It allows Mu Chen to directly absorb unusually violent energies, including Water and Fire Qi and Dragon Origin Marrow-derived energy. 134 177
- Its exceptional recovery capability makes it difficult for Mu Chen to exhaust his Source Qi in prolonged combat. 281
- At the ninth grade, it can oppose Ninth-grade Blood Sea Source Qi directly. 334
Space Qi
Space Qi becomes usable after Mu Chen refines the Space Ancestral Symbol. 46
- It enables spatial traversal and teleportation. 46
- Mu Chen can use it to cross damaged Origin Pattern barriers and transport companions across obstacles. 64
- Its refinement raises both Mu Chen's Source Qi cultivation and Soul Power. 46
Fusion into Origin God Power
Source Qi can be fused with Soul Power through the Spirit Gathering Mat to form Origin God Power. Mu Chen succeeds on his thirty-third attempt and names the resulting chaos-colored energy himself. 49
- The two energies must be supplied in a one-to-one ratio. 49
- They must enter the formation simultaneously and remain perfectly balanced. 49
- Failure to maintain balance causes the fusion to fail. 49
- The process is highly draining and becomes difficult if the user's Source Qi cultivation and Soul Power are too uneven. 49
- Origin God Power is stronger than either Source Qi or Soul Power used alone. 49
- Mu Chen later uses it to empower the Great Desolation Prison Finger, injuring Wu Huang and Ye Ming. 93
