Background

Tuntun first appears as a dirt-covered, pale-yellow creature resembling a small dog in an unfamiliar forest. Drawn to Mu Chen's Devouring Ancestral Symbol, it tests him with its own far stronger Devouring Power before Yaoyao orders it to stop. Yaoyao subsequently identifies the beast as Tuntun. 20 21

It quickly becomes attached to Mu Chen, often riding on his head and treating him as a dependable source of meals. Despite its unruly behavior around Mu Chen, it immediately becomes obedient when Yaoyao speaks. 25 38

An ancient disturbance later transports Tuntun and Mu Chen to the Heaven Xuan Continent. During their year-long separation from Yaoyao, Tuntun grows restless and misses her deeply. 42 56

At some point, Cangyuan sends Tuntun to Myriad Beast Heaven, where its Ancestral Taotie identity earns it the status of “Little Ancestor” among the Golden Ni Clan. Mu Chen and Yaoyao later reunite with it there. 295 312 313

Tuntun normally takes the form of a small, dog-sized beast. Its harmless appearance conceals the pressure and appetite of an Innate Sacred Beast. 20 313

Personality

Tuntun is proud, gluttonous, and highly territorial about its status as an Innate Sacred Beast. It reacts angrily to being treated as an ordinary pet, destroying a doghouse-like shelter built for it and refusing to be sold despite Green Vine's interest. 44 78

It is mischievous around Mu Chen, provoking fights, shifting blame after the two destroy Zhou Yuan's carriage, and mockingly looking down on Zhou Yuan's cultivation. 30 38 However, it is loyal to both Mu Chen and Yaoyao: it shields Mu Chen from Wei Canglan's pressure and becomes especially dangerous when Yaoyao is harmed. 40 94

Food is Tuntun's primary weakness. Mu Chen's cooking turns him into its preferred “meal ticket,” while promises of a feast immediately overcome its reluctance to provide blood or help with difficult tasks. 42 111 189
