Background

Wu Biao was born during a fight between his parents, who accidentally punched him out of the womb and continued fighting while he was still attached by the umbilical cord. He survived being dragged and stepped on during the brawl, an experience he credits for his lifelong love of fighting. His parents later died, leaving him to drift through life as a battle-obsessed young man. 1

At age twenty-five, Wu Biao punched through a crowd during a fight and inexplicably arrived in Karakura Town at the apparent age of fourteen or fifteen. Mistaking the time displacement for having “fought his way” out of his province, he defeated a group of delinquents, met Kurosaki Ichigo and Sado Yasutora, and offered them his protection. 1

He subsequently joined the Kurosaki household and worked around Kurosaki Clinic. He accepted food and lodging in place of wages, performed the household’s heavy labor, trained with medical equipment weighing one ton, and helped make the local street safer by targeting bullies and delinquents. 4 5

Appearance

Wu Biao is a muscular, bald young man who frequently wears a worn white lab coat, including beneath his Marine uniform and cape. He is intensely proud of his appearance despite repeatedly losing or failing to regrow his hair. 114 180 293

  • A shiny bald head; he later uses “shine-enhancing butter” to make it more reflective. 293
  • Usually wears a tattered or white lab coat. 5 180
  • Displays blood-colored mist from his pores while using Ichibai Kanon Ken. 50
  • Bears Gates of Hell marks on his wrists after becoming Hell’s Agent. 76

Personality

Wu Biao is reckless, hot-blooded, and openly addicted to combat. He considers fist-to-flesh fighting “the true romance of a man,” refuses to use weapons, and becomes more excited as a battle grows more dangerous. 1 41 47

Despite his aggression, he consistently intervenes against bullies and reacts strongly to cruelty. He is willing to protect others, including Ichigo, Xiao Huaye, and strangers in danger, even when doing so places him at risk. 5 76 153

He follows his own judgment rather than rules, authority, or long-term planning. Hell’s Will could not coerce him into becoming its proxy because Wu Biao refuses to submit to anyone or make promises he does not personally choose to keep. 70

Wu Biao often appears foolish or inattentive, but his instincts and combat intelligence are exceptional. During the Fourth Holy Grail War, he reveals that he can become coldly rational when necessary and that he has concealed more intelligence than others assumed. 176 357
