Background
Gu Xiaobei came from a family that operated a restaurant. After witnessing Lan Qingyou make potions, she began experimenting with food herself; her unnamed talent enabled her to gather large quantities of herbs for ingredients and trade 21 26.
Her first major product was Silverfish Potato Noodles (E-), an improvised version of Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles made with chest-found potato noodles. The dish restored mana, quickly became popular in District 666, and funded her Shelter upgrades 26 31. Lan Qingyou supported her early business by providing kitchenware and connecting her with Li Huai for durable stone bowls 26 31.
She later opened the Joyful Restaurant on the northern side of the Abandoned Forest. The two-story stilt house stands at the foot of the Abandoned Mountains, with an open lower level and a ventilated, well-lit restaurant above 140. The kitchen serves as both her workplace and the location of her Magic Desk; she spends most of her time cooking, handling orders, and researching food and insects 141.
Lan Qingyou recruited Gu Xiaobei into Tarot Villa for her culinary contribution and the Villa’s access to cultivated vegetables. Her Clay Pot Red Black Eel Rice Bowl (D) attracted immediate interest from the group, and her Covered Rice was traded for Mana Crystals 96. Tarot Villa later identified her as The Emperor and revealed her World Will-recognized title, Tyrant of Joy 65 99.
Personality
Gu Xiaobei is practical, energetic, and strongly motivated by cooking. She treats high-quality ingredients as both a business opportunity and a way to care for her companions, regularly preparing meals tailored to their needs and bringing out rare ingredients when Lan Qingyou places an order 127.
She is direct and independent: she refused to accept Lan Qingyou’s kitchenware without compensation, even when it was offered freely 26. Her work ethic also extends to hygiene and professionalism; while cooking, she declined to pet Steel Wool rather than dirty her hands and delay her work 212.
In combat, she can be bold and impulsive, charging skeletons with a giant wooden spatula and rapidly setting enemy-filled wreckage ablaze 215. Conversely, she is uneasy around invisible or supernatural threats and has a pronounced fear of heights, preferring to run beside Lan Qingyou’s flying broom rather than ride it 226 237 238.
