Background / History

Class D is initially regarded as the school's lowest-performing class. Dokuho Kouya warns his classmates that the school considers Class D students “defective products,” particularly distrusting students such as Kikyo Kushida whose public behavior appears flawless. His view leads Class B to maintain friendly but guarded relations with Kushida. 21 28

During the first aptitude assessment, Chie Hoshinomiya offers Dokuho 300,000 private points to reduce Class D's score to zero. Dokuho accepts, intending to profit by allowing the class to self-destruct rather than intervening. The audience later learns that he was responsible for Class D's collapse. 27 34

Dokuho further worsens the class's situation by reporting that its students obtained the midterm's original questions. Seven Class D students fail and require private points to avoid expulsion, forcing the class to seek help from other classes. 54 55
