Floco shivered and instinctively ducked behind Pearl, not wanting to meet the other person's gaze.
The Eye of the Abyss's presence had vanished completely, and Douglas still hadn't appeared—not even as a corpse.
Thinking of where Pearl had come from, Gorsa glanced at Floco, who was trying hard to keep a low profile, and suddenly realized the truth.
"Douglas is going to die soon, isn't he?"
"He's reached the end."
Gorsa tensed his muscles. "Thank you for stepping in."
He understood that Pearl must have done something after Thor left. Otherwise, the Eye of the Abyss and Douglas wouldn't have disappeared so completely.
He simply hadn't noticed what Pearl had done.
And Gorsa suspected that the Pearl standing before him wasn't actually Pearl.
Floco had probably realized this much earlier.
He remembered Floco saying just moments ago that the Death Herald Demon's ability was observation. Yet this power of observation could make the one being observed head straight for their end.
It was as though once the Death Herald Demon saw your death, you would skip every step and arrive directly at the end of your life.
And Pearl had just said that she was watching Douglas.
Just then, Byron swam out of the sea and flew over to Pearl with the Half-Elf and several Consciousness Entities.
Byron asked outright, "May I ask where Thor went? Is he all right?"
Pearl was unexpectedly patient. Perhaps she simply had nothing urgent to do. "He needs to go out and clear his head, to digest knowledge beyond his current level."
After she spoke, her eyes went blank, and a trace of confusion crossed her face. "If becoming one of us would solve everything, why doesn't he want to?"
Hearing that Thor was probably all right, everyone finally relaxed.
