Background

Obito was regarded as a dead-last despite reaching chunin before deployment and becoming Namikaze Minato’s student. He admired talented clan peers such as Uchiha Sou, while his own relationship with Sou remained merely amicable. His strongest aspirations were to become Hokage, earn recognition, and confess his feelings to Nohara Rin. 2 100 126

During a mission in the Land of Grass, Obito clashed with Kakashi over Kakashi’s willingness to prioritize the mission over rescuing Rin. When Rin was captured, Obito condemned Kakashi with the belief that comrades must come before rules. The two reconciled, but Obito was crushed beneath falling rocks while saving Kakashi. He entrusted Kakashi with his left Sharingan and asked him to protect Rin. 100

Obito survived the collapse after inadvertently triggering his Mangekyō’s power, leaving Uchiha Madara able to recover him. Madara replaced and rehabilitated his damaged body with Senju-derived power, including Hashirama cells in his right side, then groomed him as the successor to the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan. Fall and Return

Assumed Death and Descent

Obito rushed to save Rin and Kakashi after his rehabilitation, but witnessed Rin apparently die on Kakashi’s blade. The shock awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan and drove him into a rampage against Kirigakure Anbu. Concluding that reality had no value without Rin, he accepted Madara’s vision of a new world under the Infinite Tsukuyomi. 104 105

Taking the name Uchiha Madara, Obito operated behind a Spiral Mask, visited his and Rin’s graves, and resolved to destroy Konoha. He later controlled the Nine-Tails and attacked Konoha, but Uchiha Sou and Orochimaru defeated him after Orochimaru severed his control with a Contract Seal. 112 118 122

Restoration as a Konoha Ninja

Uchiha Sou secretly saved Rin, then offered Obito a path back after their confrontation. Obito accepted an appointment to Konoha’s Anbu, received a reactivated ninja registration and forehead protector, and was assigned to investigate Madara, Black Zetsu, and Akatsuki from within. 125 126
