Nature

A Martial Soul is an extension of its owner's body and can take the form of an otherwise ordinary object, a weapon, a beast, or more unusual manifestations such as a person's own shadow 325 482.

Martial Souls generally originate through parental inheritance or divine bestowal. The Six-Winged Angel is a God-Bestowed Martial Soul inherited by the Popes and Great Elders of Martial Soul Hall, while other Martial Souls may vary widely even among the first generations of users 50 311 449.

The quality of a Martial Soul strongly affects a Spirit Master's potential. Superior Martial Souls generally provide better physical traits, speed, strength, elemental power, or toxicity; this advantage remains important even between users of equal Soul Power 432.

Awakening

Martial Souls are usually awakened at the age of six through guidance from a small amount of Soul Power. Exceptionally talented individuals can awaken naturally without guidance, though this may waste part of their potential 161.

Awakening reveals both the Martial Soul and the user's Innate Soul Power. Most people possess Martial Souls but lack Soul Power and therefore cannot become Spirit Masters 68 116.

• Innate Soul Power — Determines a newly awakened user's initial capacity for Soul Power cultivation. Innate Full Soul Power is an exceptional result, as seen in Hu Liena and Xie Yue 296.
• Innate anomalies — Feng Shayan successfully awakened a Martial Soul but registered no Innate Soul Power; her Soul Power instead appeared connected to her existing Qi reserves 482.
• Self-awareness — A user may instinctively understand a newly awakened Martial Soul's basic functions, as Feng Shayan did with her shadow Martial Soul 482.

Tool Martial Souls

Tool Martial Souls can be weapons, defensive equipment, support items, or seemingly mundane objects. Their development direction can be heavily influenced by their user's Spirit Rings and Soul Power 325 422.

At high levels, a Tool Martial Soul's Avatar of the Martial Soul can be especially formidable because the user and tool become one. This comes at a considerable mental-energy cost, since the tool's true form must be sustained through the user's soul and consciousness 510 511.

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls typically strengthen the user's body during Martial Soul Possession. Their manifestations may include transformed limbs, animal features, enlarged physiques, or a beast form that partially exists independently of the user 416 280.

A Beast Martial Soul does not inherently conflict with other forms of training, since its basic function is bodily enhancement 482.

Cultivation and Spirit Rings

Spirit Masters cultivate Soul Power, but Spirit Rings are required to pass major rank thresholds. Soul Power can continue accumulating before a breakthrough, then manifest once the necessary Spirit Ring is acquired 492.

For human Spirit Masters, each absorbed Spirit Ring normally grants a Spirit Skill. Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Rings may grant two 123.

Martial Soul Possession

Martial Soul Possession activates the Martial Soul's basic characteristics. Beast Martial Souls often transform the user's body, while Tool Martial Souls are summoned and wielded directly 416 590.

• Beast-type users may gain claws, wings, heightened physique, or other species traits 416.
• Tool-type users can dismiss and resummon their Martial Souls to escape restraints placed specifically on the weapon 590.
• Certain unusual Beast Martial Souls can manifest as independent entities rather than only altering the user's body 280.

Avatar of the Martial Soul

The seventh Spirit Skill is the Avatar of the Martial Soul, which releases a Martial Soul's full combat potential 510 591.

• Beast avatars generally transform the user's body into the Martial Soul's original form or a strengthened variation 280 510.
• Tool avatars combine user and weapon, often yielding greater direct combat power than Beast avatars but imposing a heavier mental burden 510 511.
• The degree of enhancement depends heavily on the Martial Soul's quality 591.
• Rare mutations can produce a Tool Soul Avatar Beast Soul Transformation, combining the durability of a Tool Soul Avatar with the amplification of a Beast Soul Avatar 590.

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill combines multiple compatible Martial Souls into a single, stronger technique. Compatibility and mutual understanding between users determine its effectiveness 280.

• Only complementary or homologous Martial Souls can form a fusion skill; conflicting attributes prevent one 280.
• Two-person fusion skills are rare, while three-person fusion skills are exceptional 279 423.
• Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong's Golden Sacred Dragon is centered on Luo Sanpao and can challenge opponents above the trio's individual ranks 279 280.
• Fusion skills differ from ordinary coordinated techniques; a true Martial Soul Fusion requires the Martial Souls themselves to combine 423.

Beast-Human Variants

Beast-Humans possess Beast Souls fused into their bodies rather than following the standard human Spirit Master path. Their first five rings primarily strengthen their body and awaken innate Beast Soul talents instead of granting conventional Spirit Skills 123.

A Beast-Human's first five rings function like permanent strengthening skills, requiring no activation or Soul Power expenditure 123. Their talent before the seventh rank can be measured by their beast-transformation ratio, since complete transformation is required for Beast Soul Awakening 165.

• Luo Sanpao — Commonly regarded as a defective Martial Soul, but actually possesses Golden Sacred Dragon bloodline that Yu Xiaogang lacks the talent to fully bear 194.
• Spider Emperor Cross Halberd — Qian Renxue's weapon Martial Soul is closer to a divine artifact gestating within her body than an ordinary Tool Martial Soul 405.
• Feng Shayan's shadow — Can share vision with its owner, act independently, allow consciousness transfer, and shift between reality and illusion at the cost of Qi 482.
• Mystic Ice Manjusaka — Xue You's plant-type Beast Soul manifests through bodily changes and abilities beyond those expected of an ordinary plant Martial Soul, despite her lack of visible Spirit Rings 428.
• Golden Dragon manifestation — The Three-Eyed Golden Lion can use her human form to simulate a Golden Dragon Martial Soul through her Golden Dragon bloodline and the Golden Dragon Spear 368.
