Nature and Ascension

A Sovereign is a god-class existence created when a Highgod refines a Sovereign Spark. The Spark grants its bearer Sovereign Power, Willpower, and authority over heaven and earth; it is regarded as the sole opportunity for most beings to rise beyond the Highgod realm 152 197.

Sovereign Sparks were designed in three grades for every law or rule: one Highgod Spark, two Intermediate Sparks, and four Lowgod Sparks 152. Their grade is visibly marked by halos during gestation 164 171.

Sovereign Spark manifestation Sovereign rank Willpower difference
One halo Lowgod / Lesser Sovereign Two portions of Willpower below an Intermediate Sovereign 171
Two halos Intermediate Sovereign Two portions of Willpower below a Highgod Sovereign 171
Three halos Highgod / High-level Sovereign One hundred times stronger than the rank immediately below through its two-portion Willpower advantage 171

Great Sovereigns

Great Sovereign is a political and honorary status distinct from Spark grade. Desterie established it for the Highgod Sovereigns of each element, who are expected to manage their respective divine domains. Intermediate and Lesser Sovereigns may be recognized as Great Sovereigns if their demonstrated strength earns Desterie's approval 192.

The High-level Sovereigns of the Four Rules hold particular authority over the Four Supreme Planes and later form the leadership of the Sovereign Council 192 210.

Abilities and Authority

Sovereign's Will

Willpower is the defining strength of a Sovereign and provides broad enhancement to offense, defense, and other abilities. Its defensive amplification is greatest, while its improvement to speed is comparatively weakest 210.

  • Within the Supreme Planes, Spatial Turbulence, or a Sovereign's home Material Plane, a Sovereign whose divine sense covers an area can kill or suppress most Highgods with a thought 196.
  • Paragon Highgods and the divine avatars of other Sovereigns can resist this direct suppression 196.
  • A Sovereign's Will cannot be defied by ordinary gods 32.
  • Refining additional Sovereign Sparks provides further Willpower to a Sovereign's other clones, making multi-body Sovereigns markedly stronger 167.

“The Sovereign's Will cannot be defied!” 32

Sovereign Power

Sovereign Power is the origin energy used by Sovereigns. It is not inherently divided into separate quality grades; differences in strength arise primarily from Willpower, cultivation, divine abilities, and equipment 152.

  • It may form giant-face projections, energy avatars, restraints, attacks, and defensive constructs 19 40 196.
  • Highgods using Sovereign Power aligned with their attribute can gain several hundredfold increases in strength 193.
  • Sovereigns can use their power collectively to create or reshape vast divine environments, including the seven large Divine Planes 197 198.

Divine Sense and Projection

Sovereigns possess divine sense capable of spanning an entire plane and can recognize other Sovereigns within their perception range 19 70.

  • A Sovereign may project a giant face or energy avatar through condensed Sovereign Power 19 31.
  • Outside non-native Material Planes, projections can retain Willpower 40.
  • An energy avatar descending into a Material Plane is limited to Highgod-level strength and lacks its full Sovereign authority 196.
  • Sovereigns can safely traverse Spatial Turbulence, a region lethal to beings without Sovereign Artifact-level durability 39 69.

Divine Clones and Multiple Sparks

A Sovereign may possess multiple divine clones and refine more than one Sovereign Spark. Each additional Spark strengthens the Sovereign's overall Willpower and may produce a second Sovereign body 39 167.

  • Desterie became a dual-body Sovereign after refining Xingyi's Destruction Intermediate Sovereign Spark 39.
  • The Black Dragon King became the first dual-body Sovereign after refining both Destruction and Fire Sparks, though Desterie killed him shortly afterward 167 168.
  • Multiple Sparks can allow a Sovereign's clones to share and replenish their authority over heaven and earth 167.

Limitations

  • A Sovereign's true body entering a non-home Material Plane can cause that plane to collapse, drawing punishment from a Supreme God 95.
  • Such punishment destroys the offending Sovereign clone and can erase all of the Sovereign's clones and original body from existence 95.
  • A Sovereign may be vastly stronger than Highgods yet remain vulnerable to other Sovereigns, especially those with higher-grade Sparks, Grand Perfection cultivation, specialized innate abilities, or Supreme Artifacts 171 192 207.
  • Sovereign consciousness is described as equal in perception level regardless of personal combat strength; Sovereigns can therefore detect one another when within range 70.

Artifacts and Emissaries

Sovereigns can gestate Sovereign Artifacts and empower selected Highgods through their authority 193.

  • A Sovereign may bestow one Sovereign Artifact upon an Emissary and one upon a child, but cannot designate their child as an Emissary to grant a second artifact 193.
  • Sovereign Tokens may be freely created, but are reserved for official Sovereign's Emissaries 193.
  • Under Desterie's regulations, ordinary Intermediate and Lowgod Sovereigns may formally appoint up to two Emissaries; a Four-Rule Great Sovereign may appoint up to eight 193.
  • An Emissary represents the Sovereign's authority and reputation, making the Emissary's strength and conduct a matter of importance 193.

Faith Power

Faith Power is a major resource for Sovereign cultivation. Faith accumulated through worship in the endless Material Planes is drawn toward Sovereign Sparks, even when worshippers invoke broad titles rather than a specific Sovereign's name 183 194.

  • Faith Power accelerates law and rule comprehension and can help a Sovereign reach the Five-Fusion Limit 193.
  • It can increase the likelihood of attaining Grand Perfection by tenfold or even a hundredfold 193.
  • Faith directed to a specific individual flows primarily to that target; unfocused faith associated with an attribute is divided among the Sovereigns of that attribute 194.
  • Great Sovereigns receive preferential access to organized faith under Desterie's later regulations 194.

History

Hongmeng established the Sovereign realm as a level above Highgod after determining that Paragon cultivation alone offered no further universal path of advancement. He designed Sovereign Sparks to grant Willpower directly, creating Lowgod, Intermediate, and Highgod Sovereign ranks 152.

The first known mass descent of Sovereign Sparks scattered seventy-seven Sparks across the Four Supreme Planes. They gestated for ten thousand years, with eleven three-halo, twenty-two two-halo, and forty-four one-halo Sparks identified before their emergence 154 164.

Desterie became the first Sovereign by refining the Destiny Intermediate God Spark. He immediately used his new authority to claim additional unrefined Sovereign Sparks, establishing himself as a decisive force among the newly born Sovereigns 166.

After gaining dominance over Hell and other realms, Desterie convened Sovereign Councils, formalized rank distinctions, regulated Emissaries and artifacts, and established rules intended to restrain indiscriminate conflict between Sovereigns 186 192 193 206.

The Supreme Gods later ordered the Law Sovereigns to create seven Law Divine Planes and continued to dictate major events such as Plane Wars, demonstrating that Sovereigns remain subject to a higher cosmic authority 197 205.
