Wells strongly suspected that Lin Li himself could also control magnetic fields. Otherwise, how could he separate biological magnetic fields with such precision?

Wells simmered with resentment. If Lin Li were allowed to continue this targeted research, he might eventually grow into an obstacle. Wells could not be sure what kind of little inventions someone as clever as Lin Li might devise.

Wearing his glasses, Wells sat with a dark expression and pondered.

At this stage, he absolutely could not let Lin Li research or train his abilities so recklessly. Wells had seen Lin Li's progress these past few days. It was terrifying. In only a few days, he had created a biological gravity magnet. Though it had little effect on Wells, it would undeniably still hinder his speed.

He had to find something for him to do, something troublesome that would leave him unable to spare attention elsewhere—something he desperately wanted...

Lin Li, didn't you want to go home? I wonder how long you can study spatial wormhole technology!

Wells grinned sinisterly. Lin Li would certainly be unable to refuse this temptation. Your girlfriend is still waiting for you to go back and propose to her!

Once Lin Li began researching spatial wormhole technology, he would discover that he needed to study all kinds of tedious subjects: astrophysics, spatial physics, the principles and properties of wormholes, gravity, and more. When he finally reached the point where he could use particles to open a wormhole, he would discover that he had no way to pinpoint its destination. In the end, it would all be for nothing.

Wells had no intention of telling Lin Li anything about spatial coordinates. That knowledge also involved artificial intelligence calculations. Then Lin Li would have to study computers as well. How could Wells bear to let him work so hard?

Dr. Wells sighed faintly. As long as people had feelings, they had weaknesses that could be exploited.

It was already midnight.

As usual, Lin Li returned to his room after finishing his training in the basement. He had become a resident of STAR Labs.

The kind who ate and lived there for free.

He had still sensed Grodd's biological magnetic field last night.

There was also the Time Vault, the place where Dr. Wells hid Gideon and kept the Reverse-Flash suit.

When Lin Li sensed that place, it was nothing but an ordinary wall and an ordinary room.

Just yesterday, it had emitted dense, threadlike fluctuations of frequency, a sign that high-energy objects were inside.

Yet now it truly seemed like an ordinary room, and that alarmed Lin Li.

Wells must have used something unknown to shield the magnetic field, then simulated the magnetic field of an ordinary wall.

That possibility startled Lin Li.

In theory, magnetic fields could not be shielded. They could be considered fluctuations emitted by objects. Basically, all matter possessed a magnetic field. It could not be seen or touched and could only be detected by instruments.

Lin Li's perception of magnetic fields had reached an exceptionally refined level. He could even use technology to manipulate certain magnetic fields and create little devices, just like the biological gravity magnet for The Flash.

But he had actually sensed the Time Vault as nothing more than an ordinary room. How was that possible?

It shattered everything Lin Li understood about science, along with his confidence.

That meant his Magnetic Field Sense might not be able to track the Reverse-Flash, leaving him in an extremely passive position.

Lin Li's Super-Speed Thinking began to turn.

He felt that Wells had likely suspected that he possessed Magnetic Field Sense, which was why he had moved Grodd out of the sewers.

The Time Vault had also been shielded and disguised by something unknown.

It was very likely future technology.

All of it was meant to guard against him.

He recalled how Wells had called him over during the day to comfort Caitlin.

He recalled the lightning emblem he had made for Barry.

Lin Li fell into thought.

Originally, he had created the biological gravity magnet merely to test whether he could strengthen magnetic force and use it against the Reverse-Flash, limiting his speed.

Wells must have seen his application and perception of magnetic fields in that device, panicked as a result, and moved Grodd away while shielding and protecting the Time Vault.

But wasn't he afraid that Lin Li would discover his identity?

No, that was not right!

Lin Li shook his head as a sudden realization struck him.

He already knew Wells's identity.

If he looked at it from another angle—if he did not know Wells's identity—what would he do? What would he suspect?

If he did not know who Wells was, would he notice the Time Vault?

Would he pay attention to Grodd?

No.

There were plenty of high-energy objects in STAR Labs. The magnetic lines emitted by their fields were chaotic and complex. There was no way to easily detect the mystery of a Time Vault.

Moreover, Lin Li had only gained his abilities around half a month ago. There was no way he should suspect or know what the Time Vault was.

He would pay even less attention to Grodd.

So he should be completely focused on researching a way home, opening a wormhole or black hole to find his way back.

It was only because the Reverse-Flash wanted to kill him that he needed to protect himself against this speedster, researching little things to preserve his life or defeat him.

Lin Li's Super-Speed Thinking spun madly, silver arcs of electricity flashing in his eyes.

Then he should focus even more on researching things specifically designed to deal with speedsters. As long as he used Barry to test several more anti-speedster devices, Dr. Wells would surely come up with a way to stop him.

Whether through force or intelligence.

Wells himself certainly did not have much Speed Force left and could not use it. Even if Grodd came to fight Lin Li, Lin Li would not fear him, nor was he afraid of Grodd's mind control.

In truth, Wells had only one path left: give Lin Li some knowledge to study, send him off to learn and search for a way home, and stall until Barry had grown strong enough. Then Wells would have nothing to fear.
