Background / History
Medicine Slave spent his life at the Precious Medicine Workshop and felt a deep attachment to it, eagerly organizing its reconstruction after it was destroyed 5. He had served Poison Demon Huo Lanqiu for decades, but Huo treated him primarily as labor and rarely permitted him time to cultivate or handle a cauldron after Ye Tong was brought to the workshop 31 86.
He had been beside Ye Tong since the boy arrived at the workshop at age six, making their association at least ten years old by the time they entered the Golden Phoenix Mountain Range 15. Though he initially struggled to understand Ye Tong's sudden changes in knowledge, personality, artistry, and combat ability, he tested him using memories and secrets known only to them—then accepted that he remained Ye Tong 20.
Before becoming Huo Lanqiu's servant, Medicine Slave had been a ruthless figure in the Left Camp, a past that made him immediately wary when Left Camp assassins appeared in the Golden Phoenix Mountain Range 18. His long experience also included repeated expeditions into the range, including two ventures into its depths from which he barely escaped 14.
After Ye Tong entered the Falan Sect, Medicine Slave remained at Blue Star Garden, overseeing the household and cultivating with its residents 125 207. Ye Tong's resources ultimately enabled his Foundation Establishment breakthrough, a realm Medicine Slave had never expected to reach in his former life at the workshop 243.
When Ye Tong disappeared for five years after visiting the Lan Family's Blue Star Hall, Medicine Slave led Ye Tong's subordinates in investigating the Lan Family, then continued searching for him independently 593. He came to the Heavenly Gate region hoping to find a trace of his master, was badly injured in a battle, and was saved from execution by Dong Xueyan 593.
Appearance
Medicine Slave usually presents himself as a frail, aged servant, but his bearing changes sharply in battle.
- Wrinkled face and a normally hunched body 5 14
- Uses a dragon-headed cane and often leans on it to reinforce his harmless appearance 18
- Can straighten his back and project a sharp, oppressive aura when threatened 18 22
- Moves with striking speed despite his elderly appearance 18 42
Personality
Medicine Slave is steadfastly loyal to Ye Tong and routinely prioritizes the young master's safety over his own. He advises caution in dangerous territory, watches over Ye Tong during cultivation, and readily follows orders even when he does not understand the reasoning behind them 14 22 86.
His loyalty is tempered by practical judgment. He worries about finances, hostile cultivators, travel risks, and the limits of Ye Tong's strength, while also providing informed advice on cultivation resources, geography, and combat techniques 28 35 47 103. He is capable of dry humor, especially when discussing poison, medicinal cuisine, or defeated enemies 16 26.
Though he calls himself an old servant, he gradually gains personal ambition after his cultivation advances. Ye Tong encourages him to seek higher realms rather than resign himself to age and limited potential 248.
