| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Takigakure network | 56 | Ruri casts the technique on the sealed Zero-Tails. Its reach barely covers Takigakure, but the connected villagers’ negative emotions begin flowing to the Zero-Tails as fuel for Takikage Fortress. |
| Rinnegan-assisted upgrade | 170 | Ruri strengthens the genjutsu and extends the network across the Land of Waterfalls. Service is suspended for half a day during maintenance; the wider coverage does not mean every resident is enrolled. |
Background / History
Ruri first received the technique as a system reward when Takikage Fortress needed a power source. He cast it on the sealed Zero-Tails to gather negative emotions from Takigakure’s connected villagers; the Zero-Tails converted that energy into chakra for the fortress 56 61 170.
Although initially presented as Infinite Tsukuyomi, Ruri later identifies his version as a pseudo-Infinite Tsukuyomi he developed himself: a high-level genjutsu resembling, but distinct from, the genuine technique. He describes its basis as Rinnegan genjutsu, Tenseigan control of spiritual will and action, and the Zero-Tails’ chakra to extend its range 289 295.
Abilities & Uses
Shared illusory network
- Connects participants’ consciousness in a world Ruri constructs. They can communicate with one another but cannot freely change the environment 58.
- Supports games built from content Ruri knows. The network reflects participants’ thoughts, preventing cheating in those games 58.
- Hosts Ninja World, a game restricted to Takigakure ninja when it launches 107.
- After the range upgrade, connected villagers can contact family and friends from anywhere within the Land of Waterfalls. Sentry posts can also transmit intelligence without messenger hawks 170.
Genjutsu and perception
- Lets Ruri sense some intruders within its coverage, including ordinary White Zetsu and Tobirama when his position is not concealed by Zetsu’s Mayfly Technique. It cannot detect Black Zetsu’s main body reliably 131.
- Can present realistic emotional scenarios. In one experiment, five Chinoike ninja awaken the Ketsuryūgan; a subsequent group of twenty also succeeds 133.
- Can help Uchiha awaken the Sharingan, but Ruri’s attempts to use its illusions to awaken Obito’s Mangekyō Sharingan fail 375.
- Can subtly guide a participant’s thoughts. Ruri uses the network in the United Nations compound to steer Sasuke toward seeking instruction from “Zero” 549.
Limits
- Before the Rinnegan-assisted upgrade, its range barely covers Takigakure, and powerful opponents can resist or evade its effects 56 170.
- Senjutsu and other power comparable to the Rinnegan can still break the upgraded version 170.
- Producing continuously changing scenes, such as a movie, requires Ruri to control the images moment by moment and is too mentally taxing for routine use 58.
- Ruri declines to bring every resident of the Land of Waterfalls into the expanded network because a group that large would be difficult to control 170.
Related Applications
- Moon-based network — Ruri later establishes a similar genjutsu network inside the moon, powered by Otsutsuki Aiura rather than the Zero-Tails, to aid communication and control there 449.
- Wartime connection — Ruri uses the Zero-Tails to cast a pseudo-Infinite Tsukuyomi across the Shinobi World during the confrontation with Madara 638.
