Tang San was born to Tang Hao and Ah Yin. Ah Yin, a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor in human form, was hunted after being discovered by Spirit Hall while pregnant and ultimately sacrificed herself to Tang Hao, becoming his ninth Soul Ring 3.

His body is stated to contain the soul of someone in his thirties from a previous life. Before reincarnation, he belonged to the Tang Sect and retained its cultivation methods, hidden-weapon knowledge, poisons, and combat techniques 5 6. He also possesses Twin Martial Souls: Blue Silver Grass in his right hand and the Clear Sky Hammer in his left 5.

After entering Nuoding Academy, Yu Xiaogang deduced his Twin Martial Souls and accepted him as a disciple.
