Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was the son of Yu Yuanzhen, leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. He was expelled from the clan after awakening the pig-like mutated Martial Soul Luo Sanpao and remaining stalled at Level 29; Su Ming's diary speculates that the publication of restricted theoretical knowledge may have contributed to his removal. 11

Unable to advance through combat strength, Yu Xiaogang cultivated a reputation as the “Theory Master.” He compiled and published Martial Soul theories that had largely been copied from Spirit Hall archives through his relationship with Bibi Dong, with only limited original additions. 10 11 His later confession revealed that he had deliberately approached and manipulated Bibi Dong in hopes of benefiting from her power and status. 429

At Nuoding Academy, Yu Xiaogang intervened when the gatekeeper obstructed Su Ming and Tang San's enrollment. Seeing Su Ming's Level 7 Innate Soul Power and Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power, he immediately sought talented disciples to validate his theories and restore his reputation. 7

He correctly deduced that Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls from his Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power, though this revelation nearly provoked Tang San into killing him to preserve the secret. 8 Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his teacher, while Su Ming rejected him after challenging the source and credibility of his theories. 9 10

Yu Xiaogang took Tang San hunting for his first Soul Ring despite possessing only Level 29 Soul Power and a Martial Soul with little offensive ability. His rigid belief in a 423-year First Soul Ring limit led him to select a roughly 400-year Mandala Snake instead of accounting for Tang San's unusually strong physique. 37

As a teacher at Shrek and later Thunderclap Academy, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly arranged training and team matches to elevate Tang San's standing, including pairing him with students from influential backgrounds. Seeking a cultivation method for Tang San's Twin Martial Souls, Yu Xiaogang traveled to Spirit Hall expecting Bibi Dong to still favor him. His attempt to use an Elder Token failed, and Bibi Dong rejected his request, tortured him, severed his right arm, and crippled his Soul Power. 426 429 444

Spirit Hall subsequently exposed his theories as plagiarized and incomplete. The public learned that the supposed fixed Soul Ring age limits ignored individual physical condition, causing commoners who had trusted his teachings to turn against him. 482 484 His loss of reputation, cultivation, and public support left him isolated even as he continued devising tournament tactics. 488 507

After Tang San's actions brought conflict involving the Asura God and Sea God, Bibi Dong had Yu Xiaogang arrested and executed. She cited his responsibility as Tang San's teacher, as well as the public outrage over his fraudulent theories. 546
